ELVEN W. CAIN SERVICES

Graveside services and burial will be 1 p.m. Monday at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, for Elven W. Cain, 74, of Cambridge, who died Thursday (Oct. 12, 2000) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.

Brother Dave McGinnis will officiate.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge.

JOHN CALVIN CARTER

1913-2000

TIFFIN � John Calvin Carter, 87, of Tiffin, died Thursday (Oct. 12, 2000) at the St. Francis Home in Tiffin.

He was born May 30, 1913, in New Athens, son of the late Thomas Carter and Margaret Starkey Carter.

Mr. Carter was a butcher at Pentons Country Market in Amherst, retiring in 1985. He was well known for cooking for the annual spaghetti dinners and lawn fete for St. John�s United Church of Christ in Amherst. He was a veteran of World War II.

He and the former Myra Dutnell were married on March 20, 1947, in Lorain. Mrs. Carter died Oct. 15, 1995.

Mr. Carter leaves two daughters, Dianne M. Pytel of Tiffin and Mrs. Harris (Patricia) Hamker of Grafton; a brother, Bruce Carter of Sandusky; two sisters, Adaline Taggert of Cambridge and Margaret Hopkins of Cadiz; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Eight brothers and six sisters are deceased.

Private graveside services will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery with the Rev. David M. Culp officiating.

Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home in Tiffin is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to St. John�s Church of Christ or to a charity of the donor�s choice.

HERBERT BEYNON

1924-2000

Herbert Beynon, 76, of Green Cove Springs, Fla, died Thursday (Oct., 12, 2000).

He was in Cambridge on Sept. 6, 1924. He moved to the Green Cove Springs community in 1989.

Mr. Beynon was a chef, after having served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart while in the Army.

He was a member of the VFW and the DAV. He was Protestant by faith.

Along with his wife, Joyce, he leaves a son, Bruce of Los Angeles; two daughters, Jerrilynn and Melanie, both of Ohio; many step-children; three brothers and a sister, Carl, Paul, Bobby and Judy, all of Ohio; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Clay Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Gore officiating. Burial will be in Penney Farms Cemetery.

Friends may call today from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

GALE �COPE� COPLIN1918-2000

NEW CONCORD � Gale �Cope� Raymond Coplin, 82, died Saturday (Oct. 7, 2000) at the Beckett House, New Concord.

Mr. Coplin was born March 27, 1918, in Combs, W.Va., son of the late Lawrence F. and Addie Marie (Hughes) Coplin.

He grew up and attended school in Williamstown, W.Va. �Cope� gave four years of service to the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Coplin will be remembered by his friends as a kind and generous person.

He was the owner of the former Cope�s Market on Route 21 in Marietta. He was also a longtime resident of Cambridge and formerly managed the Plaza Restaurant.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 30-plus years, Opal (Wilhelm) Coplin; a friend, Josephine Seaman; two brothers, Vernon Coplin and Melvin �Doc� Coplin.

He leaves his sister, Vera M. Whiston of Williamstown, W.Va., and a brother, Rondal Coplin of Marietta; many nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Tom Kennedy of Cambridge.

Mr. Coplin wished to have his body donated to Ohio University. His ashes are expected to be buried at a later time in Marietta.

JOSEPH MARION ROGERS JR.

1935-2000

LONDONDERRY � Joseph Marion Rogers Jr., 65, formerly of Smyrna, died Friday (Oct. 13, 2000) at the Harrison County Home, Cadiz, where he had resided for the past two years.

Mr. Rogers was born March 20, 1935, at Wheeling, W.Va., son of the late Ruby Sommer Rogers and Marion Rogers of Freeport.

Mr. Rogers was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired shovel operator for the Cravat Coal Co. He was a member of the Piedmont United Methodist Church and Kirkwood Masonic Lodge 446 F&AM of Hendrysburg.

Mr. Rogers leaves his father, Marion of Freeport; his wife, Virginia C. Pitner Swabado Rogers of Houston, Texas, whom he married on July 23, 1960; three brothers, John and Mark Rogers of Freeport and Philip Rogers of Uhrichsville; two sisters, Ruth and Esther Rogers of Freeport; a stepdaughter, Carol Ann Wynn of Kingwood, Texas; nine step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, three aunts, two uncles and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Bond Funeral Home, Londonderry, from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Services will be at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Charles Mehl officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Harrisville.
