LEANDER BROOKS JR.

            Leander “Pappy” Brooks Jr., 66, of Cadiz, died Monday (Nov. 13,
            2000) at his home.

            He was born June 8, 1934, in Cadiz, son of the late Leander and
            Hazel (Jackson) Brooks.

            Mr. Brooks was a former employee of the Ohio Department of
            Transportation, Cadiz, and affiliated with St. James AME Church,
            Cadiz.

            He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He
            was a member of the former VFW Post 6564, Cadiz.

            He was preceded in death by a sister, Letitia Brooks Jones; a
            brother, Edward Brooks.

            He leaves a son, L.B. (Leander, III) Brooks of Cadiz; two daughters,
            Mrs. Ernie (Gwen) Hardwick and Mrs. Bill (Etta) Blanchard, both of
            Cadiz; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two
            brothers, Roger Brooks of Texas and Charles Threets of
            Bridgeport; three sisters, Catherine Molbrough of Steubenville,
            Margaretta Brown of Columbus and Delores West of Texas;
            several nieces and nephews.

            Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Clark-Kirkland Funeral
            Home, Cadiz, where services will be 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev.
            Bernard Gaiton officiating.

            Burial will be in Cadiz Union Cemetery. Military graveside services
            will be conducted by Cadiz American Legion.

                              JAMES GRINDLE SR.

            WOODSFIELD — James J. Grindle Sr., 74, of Stafford, formerly of
            Georgetown, died Monday (Nov. 13, 2000) at Marietta Memorial
            Hospital, Marietta.

            He was born July 22, 1926, in Morgantown, W.Va., son of the late
            John Ray and Virgie (Beaner) Grindle.

            Mr. Grindle was a retired truck driver for Wargo Industries in
            Sebring and was a Presbyterian by faith.

            He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.

            He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Mae Dias and Sara
            Haggerty; a brother, William C. Grindle.

            He leaves his wife, Dolores Miller Grindle. They were married Sept.
            27, 1955. Also surviving are two sons, James Grindle Jr. and John
            Grindle, both of Homeworth; a daughter, Peggy S. Toot of Salem; a
            sister, Mrs. John (Wanda) Haggerty of Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren
            and 10 great-grandchildren.

            No calling hours will be observed.

            Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Grandview
            Cemetery, Salem.

            Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, is handling the arrangements.

                               MARION HOFFMAN

            NEW CONCORD — Marion P. Hoffmann, 97, of First Community
            Village, Columbus, formerly of Evergreen Village, New Concord,
            died Sunday (Nov. 12, 2000) at Riverside Methodist Hospital,
            Columbus.

            She was born Sept. 19, 1903, in Gloversville, N.Y., daughter of the
            late Herbert and Ella (Lenz) Patten.

            Mrs. Hoffmann was assistant organist at the Brick Presbyterian
            Church, Park Avenue, New York City. She was a member of
            College Drive Presbyterian Church, New Concord, and attended
            the New York Institute of Musical Art (predecessor to the Julliard
            School).

            She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Jerome
            Hoffmann, on Aug. 16, 1979.

            She leaves a nephew, Dean W. Hunter of Poulsbo, Wash.; a
            great-niece and two great-nephews.

            A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Community
            Village Burkhart Chapel, Columbus, with Chaplain Richard
            Lockhart officiating.

            Services and burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Concord
            Cemetery, with the Rev. Douglas Blaikie officiating.

            Mock-Miller Funeral Home, New Concord, is handling the
            arrangements.

                                NEVA SECREST.

            WOODSFIELD — Neva Secrest, 90, of Fairground Road,
            Woodsfield, died Tuesday (Nov. 14, 2000) at the Woodsfield
            Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

            Arrangements are pending at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home,
            Woodsfield.

                               BEATRICE SIDDLE

            SENECAVILLE — Beatrice June Siddle, 66, of Pleasant City, died
            Tuesday (Nov. 14, 2000) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical
            Center, Cambridge.

            She was born Nov. 26, 1933, in Byesville.

            Mrs. Siddle was a dietary aide at Summit Acres Nursing Home in
            Caldwell for 10 years. She loved flowers and being a mother and
            grandmother.

            She was preceded in death by her twin sister, JoAnne Fulton.

            She leaves her husband, Robert L. Siddle, of the home. They were
            married Dec. 10, 1949. Also surviving are two sons, James
            (Debra) Siddle of Cambridge and Tim (Penny) Siddle of Pleasant
            City; five daughters, Mrs. Steve (Sharon) Clark of Summerfield,
            Mrs. Terry (Eva) Hupp, Mrs. Greg (Debra) Hupp and Mrs. Eric
            (Sherri) Koval, all of Pleasant City, and Mrs. Tim (Shirley) Ross of
            Cambridge; a brother, James (Sue) Secrest of Phoenix, Ariz.; a
            sister, Mrs. Wayne (Elsie) Lucas of Canton; several nieces and
            nephews.

            Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at
            Meek-Black Funeral Home, Senecaville, where services will be 1
            p.m. Friday with Pastor Mike White officiating.

            Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.

                              MARJORIE STONER

            Word has been received of the death of Marjorie (Graham) Stoner,
            74, of Canton, who died Friday (Nov. 10, 2000) at Windsor Medical
            Center, North Canton.

            She was born Sept. 1, 1926, in Middletown, daughter of the late
            Rev. J. Paul and Helen (Donaldson) Graham.

            Mrs. Stoner had attended Muskingum College and taught music in
            Moon Township, Pa. She retired in 1986 from Clarendon School in
            Canton. She was a member of the John Knox Presbyterian Church
            of North Canton.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John K.
            Stoner, on April 23, 1999. They were married June 25, 1949. Also
            deceased are a son, James Gale Stoner, and a daughter, Marjorie
            Lynn Stoner.

            She leaves two sisters, Joan Lutz of Louisville and Jean Reynolds
            of New Castle, Pa.; three close friends, Carla Williams of DeLand,
            Fla., and Jay and Nilah Ankrom of Carrollton.

            Calling hours and services were held at Allmon-Dugger and Hively
            Funeral Home, Carrollton. The Rev. Douglas Patton officiated.

            Burial was in Scroggsfield Cemetery.

                                EVERETT WEST

            WOODSFIELD — Everett West, 81, of Lower Salem, died Monday
            (Nov. 13, 2000) at his home.

            He was born May 12, 1919, near Marr, son of the late John and
            Olettie West.

            Mr. West was a lifetime resident of Monroe County and had worked
            as a dairy farmer for 45 years. He also had worked as a substitute
            school bus driver for the former Bethel School in Marr.

            He was instrumental in organizing the Bethel Township Volunteer
            Fire Department, and served as a member for 25 years.

            He was a former driver for the Bethel-Graysville Emergency Squad
            which he enjoyed very much.

            He was an elder of a non-denominational faith which met every
            Sunday for more than 45 years in his home.

            He leaves his wife, Estella Eleanor (Calhoun) West. They were
            married June 1, 1940. Also surviving are two sons, Robert “Bob”
            (Jackie) West of Warner and Wayne West of Lower Salem; two
            daughters, Mrs. Roger (Eileen) Benslay of Seabrook, Texas, and
            Mrs. Todd (Deloris) Winder of Lower Salem; 11 grandchildren and
            10 great-grandchildren.

            Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Watters Funeral Home,
            Woodsfield, where services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, with Simon
            Dean and Dennis Falb officiating.

            Burial will be in Masterton Cemetery, Lebanon.

            Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Volunteer Fire
