Helen T. Hammond

Helen T. Hammond, 88, formerly of Cambridge, died Friday (April 27, 2001) at Parkview Regional Hospital, Vicksburg, Miss.

She was born May 22, 1912, in Cambridge, daughter of the late Charles and Ola (Landman) Stewart.

Mrs. Hammond was a retired school teacher having taught in the Cambridge City Schools.

She was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Newton, Miss., and a former member of Second United Presbyterian Church, Cambridge.

She was a member of Order Eastern Star 211, Cambridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Hammond, in 1979; and a brother, James Willard Stewart.

She leaves a daughter, Mrs. R. Michael (Katie) Smith of Sarasota, Fla.; a son, Charles Hammond of Clinton, Miss.; a sister, Wilma Campbell of St. Clairsville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 .m. Saturday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Ronald Fleming officiating.

Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.

Dana F. Graham

ATHENS — Dana F. Graham, 70, of Pleasant City formerly of Chauncey, died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge, following a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 18, 1930 in Chauncey, son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Gus (Clara Haines) Graham.

Mr. Graham retired from Consolidated Motor Freight Co., Columbus, where he served as a dock worker.

He was a former employee of American Standard Co.

He was a graduate of Chauncey Dover High School and had been a resident of Columbus and Pleasant City.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, George Allen Blackford; five sisters, Jennie Gerard, Ethel Brewer, Isabel Shreigly, Martha Smith and Charolette Graham; and a brother, Otto Graham.
He leaves his wife, Greta (Weyand) Graham; a step-daughter, Mrs. Richard (Darlene) McCreery of Cincinnati; two step-sons, Thomas (Kathy) Blackford of Sheffield Lake, and George (Dawn) Blackford of Naples, Fla.; five grandchildren, Chris Dool, Eric (Michelle) Dool, Tommy Blackford IV, and Sara and James Blackford; three sisters, Freda Garrison of Fairfax, Va., Mildred Lovelace of Reynoldsburg, and Ruth Hooper of The Plains; a brother, Robert (Marilyn) Graham of Columbus; two nieces who were raised in Rev. and Mrs. Graham’s home, Mrs. Roger (Carolyn Sue) Hornsby of The Plains, and Mona Smith of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Wilcoxson; a sister and brother-in-law, Garel and Winnie Lehman; a brother-in-law, Orville Nice.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, where services will be 1 p.m. Friday with Pastor Marvin Markin officiating.

Military services and burial will be in Alexander Cemetery, Athens.

Gerald 'Weas' Nelson

Gerald “Weas” Nelson, 45, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 10, 1955, in Cambridge, son of the late Richard “Bud” D. and Zelma Frances (Scott) Nelson.

Mr. Nelson served as president of Slabe Tool in Cambridge.

He was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church, Cambridge.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Rick Nelson; and a nephew, Rick Nelson Jr.

He leaves his grandmother, Marybelle (Amspoker) Nelson of Cambridge; a sister, Mrs. Don (Paula) Larrick of Old Washington; two brothers, Albert (Cathy) Nelson of Cambridge, and Martin (Cherry) Nelson of Long Prairie, Minn.; four nieces and nephews, Stephanie Larrick, Ryan Larrick, and William and Elizabeth Nelson; and a step-niece, Angie Marshal.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Sturman Moore officiating.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, near Claysville.

Marie Corban Agne services

CADIZ — Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, for Marie Corban Agne, 90, of Sunnyslope Retirement Center, Bowerstown, formerly of Cadiz, who died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at the center.

The Rev. William Hooker will officiate. Burial will be in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was born March 20, 1911, in Rumley Township, Harrison County, daughter of the late Walter S. and Lula (Turney) Kimmel.

Mrs. Agne retired in 1980 from the former Scio Pottery Co., where she served for more than 39 years.

She was a member of Scott United Methodist Church, Cadiz, where she was also a member of United Methodist Women, Lisle Jones Circle and Doris McCann Sunday school class.

She was a member of AARP and the Clark Gable Foundation.

She was a former member of Cadiz Business and Professional Women’s Club and Harrison County Democratic Club.

She was a graduate of Scio High School.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph Corban, in 1971, and Will Agne, in 1988; four brothers, Arthur, Albert, Donald and Dwight Kimmel; a sister, Ruth Robinson; and two step-daughters, Louella Sentman and Velman Garman.

She leaves two brothers, Clarence (Clara) Kimmel of Wintersville, and Eugene (Norma) Kimmel of Cadiz; two sisters, Elsie Webber of Bowerstown, and Virginia Hammet of Roberta, Ga.; a step-son, Virgil Agne of Troy; two step-daughters, Donna Brown and Cleola Miller, both of Troy; several nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Caroline Gardinsky service

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Cambridge, for Caroline Gardinsky, 81, of Cambridge, who died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

The Rev. Father Robert Borer will officiate. Burial will be in Guernsey Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Christian wake services will be 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She was born April 14, 1920, in Buffalo, daughter of the late Stanley and Antonnio (Washko) O’karma.

Mrs. Gardinsky had worked at various restaurants and also at the Glove Factory in Coshocton.

She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and a sister.

She leaves her husband, George Gardinsky Sr. of the home, whom she married Oct. 25, 1939; six sons, George (Judy) Gardinsky Jr. of Cambridge, Andy (Martha) Gardinsky of Strasburg, Jack Gardinsky of Elyria, Stephen (Linda) Gardinsky of Mantua, Michael (Mandy) Gardinsky of Strasburg, and Steve (Rhonda) Dinkins of Galloway; two daughters, Mrs. Mike (Carolyn) Komlosi of Elyria, and Mrs. Jack (Joyce) Souther of Texas; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Charlet M. Bates

WOODSFIELD — Charlet M. Bates, 89, of Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Summerfield and New Concord, died Wednesday (May 2, 2001) at the center.

She was born Feb. 14, 1912, in Noble County, daughter of the late Ezra and Susan A. (White) Robinson.

Mrs. Bates was a homemaker and a member of New Concord Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Bates, on April 27, 1978; an infant son; three sisters, Viola McNeely, Cara B. Robinson and Mary Czigans; two brothers, Paul Robinson and Ezra R. Robinson; and a grandson, Neil Tolewitz.

She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Ruth) Shingledecker of Reynoldsburg, and Mrs. Morris (Oleta Jane) Morrison of Sycamore Valley; two brothers, Carl Robinson of Cambridge, and Merle M. Robinson of Wauseon; four grandchildren, Patty Watson of Plano, Texas, Tami Hannahs of Canal Winchester, Jeff Hannahs of Hudson, Fla., and Misty Morrison of Sycamore Valley; and a great-grandson, Jackson Couzynse of Plano, Texas.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services will be 1 p.m. Saturday with Evangelist Dick Harris officiating.

Burial will be in Bates Hill Cemetery near Summerfield.
