Lawrence D. James Sr.

Lawrence D. James Sr., 87, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (March 27, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 8, 1914, in Zanesville, son of the late Henry Paxton and Phillis Letha James.

Mr. James was active for many years in the plastics industry in Cambridge and was founder of Superior Model, Cambridge. He contributed many innovations and designs to his business.

He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of Cambridge Kiwanis Club.

He was a 1932 graduate of Zanesville High School.

He was a former board member of Quaker City National Bank and served on the board of directors of Guernsey Memorial Hospital.

Mr. James had received the George F. Hixon Award from the Kiwanis Club in May 1998.

He was an avid NASCAR fan and a collector of antique cars.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Penn; a brother, Ray James; and a sister, Dorothy Lynn.

He leaves his wife, Wanda James of Cambridge, whom he married Oct. 25, 1938; a daughter, Joellen James of Columbus; a son, Lawrence D. James Jr. of Placitas, N.M.; four sisters, Neva Lyons of Cambridge, and Freda Shoe, Mrs. Ralph (Mary Louise) Bogard and Mrs. Ralph (Rhea) Nixon, all of Zanesville; a brother, Dale James of Zanesville; six grandchildren, Vicki Lowe, Larry Penn and Jackie Parsons, all of Zanesville, Stacy James of Orlando, Fla., Randy James of Columbus and Barbara James of Placitas, N.M.; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many good friends.

Friends may call from 6 t 9 p.m. Thursday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Dawn Donato officiating.

Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park, Zanesville.

Laura E. Wright

NEWCOMERSTOWN — Laura E. Wright, 85, a resident of West Lafayette Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, formerly of West Lafayette, also a lifelong resident of Coshocton County, died Tuesday (March 27, 2001) at the center.

Arrangements are pending at Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown.

Albert T. Swelbar Jr.

CADIZ — Albert T. Swelbar Jr., 72, of Cadiz, died Tuesday (March 27, 2001) at his home.

He was born March 29, 1928, in West Moreland County, Pa., son of the late Albert T. “Blackie” and Anna Jane (Exton) Swelbar Sr.

Mr. Swelbar was a driller for 22 years at Consolidation Coal Co. in Cadiz. He was a Protestant by faith and a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War.

He was a former member of Cadiz American Legion Post 34.

He leaves his wife, Marilyn (Tarbert) Swelbar, whom he married July 18, 1959; a daughter, Mrs. Brian (Jeannine) Bullock of New Philadelphia; three brothers, Gaylord Swelbar of Minnesota, Darwin (Wanda) Swelbar of Cadiz and Kenneth (Karen) Swelbar of Chester, W.Va.; and a sister, Gloria Davenport of Bloomingdale.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, where services will be 1 p.m. Friday with the Rev. William Hudson and the Rev. Father Thomas Vennitti officiating.

Burial will be in Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Pleasant Grove.

Pauline Noble Duitch

NEW CONCORD — Pauline Noble Duitch, 97, a former resident of New Concord and The Inn at North Hills, died Monday (March 26, 2001) at the Helen Purcell Home, Zanesville.

She was born May 12, 1903, in Bloomfield, daughter of the late Ross and Hattie (Sandel) McNeal.

Mrs. Duitch was a retired librarian at the New Concord Branch of John McIntire Library, where she served from 1947-1973. She was a 1923 graduate of Muskingum Academy, New Concord.

She was the last charter member of Rebekah Lodge 848 and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, both of New Concord. She was a member of Laura Chapter 264, Order of Eastern Star, in Norwich, and a former member of Concordia Chapter of OES.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Leo Noble, in 1964; a son, Gerald Rex Noble; a step-son, Robert Duitch; two sisters, Lela Englehart and Martha Danison; three brothers, James McNeal, Sandel McNeal and Malcom McNeal.

She leaves her husband, Ellis M. Duitch, whom she married Oct. 1, 1994; two daughters Mrs. James (Kay) Ballantine of Glenford and Mrs. Bill (Carole) Vance of Denver, Colo.; a step-daughter-in-law, Martha Duitch of Steubenville; a step-son, Jim (Janet) Duitch of North Canton; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mock-Miller Funeral Home, New Concord, where Rebekah Lodge 848 will have services at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor John Edwards officiating.

Burial will be in New Concord Cemetery.

Dorothy L. (Shook) Quiley Lenroot

DUNCAN FALLS — Dorothy L. (Shook) Quiley Lenroot, 83, of Duncan Falls, died Tuesday (March 27, 2001) at the Muskingum County Home.

She was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Muskingum County, daughter of the late Carl and M. Winnie (Dingey) Shook.

Mrs. Lenroot had been employed as a clerk at Dura Corp. and was a member Duncan Falls United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Quigley; her second husband, Robert Lenroot; a sister, Frieda Vaughn; and a brother, Dee Shook.

She leaves two sons, Lewis and Carol Tooms of Cumberland; four grandchildren, Carl J. Tooms, Lou Tooms, Dee Wiseman and Bert Tooms; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson-Farus Funeral Home, Duncan Falls, where services will be 1 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Ellen Thomas officiating.

Burial will be in Duncan Falls Cemetery.

Harry Edward Shuman services

Graveside services and burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville, for Harry Edward Shuman, 81, of Cambridge, who died Monday (March 26, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

Pastor Marie Hanning will officiate. No calling hours will be observed.

He was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Cambridge, son of the late Edward Shuman and Blanche (Fife) South.

Mr. Shuman had been an employee of McKim Moving Van Co. and was a Protestant by faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah (Wendell) Shuman, in August 1964. They were married Jan. 18, 1947. Also deceased are four brothers, Roy Shuman, Robert South, Everett South and William South; and three sisters, Alice Porter, Martha Cooper and Evelyn Boyd.

She leaves a daughter, Linda Kirkbride; two brothers, John South and Raymond South; and a sister, Eythyl Shaffer all of Cambridge; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, is handling the arrangements.
