MARY CASTEEL

NEWCOMERSTOWN — Mary E. Casteel, 90, of Newcomerstown, died Sunday (March 25, 2001) at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

She was born June 5, 1910, in Oxford Township, Tuscarawas County, daughter of the late Harry Urs and Artha Myrtle (Wiandt) King.

Mrs. Casteel was a member of Flat Ridge Church in Guernsey County, and was a former member of King’s United Methodist Church, Oxford Township. She was a member of Flat Ridge Sewing Circle for many years. She enjoyed sewing, quilt making, rug making and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Madison Casteel, on Dec. 15, 1957. They were married Jan. 22, 1929. Also deceased is a son, Robert D. Casteel; three infant daughters, Mary Carol Casteel, Jessie Evelyn Casteel and Ida Mae Casteel; four sisters, Minnie Mae Cordrey, Artha M. Kenney Leidig, Virginia R. Davis and Jessie Ida Mulheim; and a step-daughter.

She leaves four sons, Richard E. (Dorothy) Casteel, Clyde M. (Gladys) Casteel, David A. (Jeannie) Casteel, all of Newcomerstown, and Kenneth (Katie) Casteel; a daughter, Mrs. Philip (Doris) Smith of Baltic; two brothers, John H. (Mildred) King and Harry U. (Virginia) King, all of Newcomerstown; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown, where services will be 1 p.m. with Pastor Nelson Miller officiating.

Burial will be in Hartwood Cemetery, Washington Township, Tuscarawas County.

JAMES FORAKER, SR.

NEWCOMERSTOWN — James P. Foraker Sr., 93, of Newcomerstown, died Sunday (March 25, 2001) at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Newcomerstown.

He was born Feb. 21, 1908, in Salesville, son of the late Aultman and Della (Britton) Foraker.

Mr. Foraker was in the lumber business all of his life and was a former forman for Heller Tool Co., Newcomerstown.

He was a member of Wolf United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Mae (Neighbor) Foraker, on Oct. 10, 1987. They were married Sept. 23, 1929. Also deceased is a son, Jack Foraker; a daughter, Nancy Foraker; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers; and three sisters.

He leaves a son, James P. (Joan) Foraker Jr. of Port Washington; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Beverly) Maurer of Newcomerstown; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Foraker of Newcomerstown; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Virgil (Gerry) Foraker of Cambridge; three sisters, Helen Tilton of Dearborn, Mich., Hazel Glazer of Newcomerstown, and Mrs. Bruce (Erma) Ankrum of Warsaw.

Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown, where services will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Marlatt officiating.

Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown.

ELAINE MACENKO

ZANESVILLE — Elaine Mildred (M.) Macenko, 64, of Zanesville, went to be with her Lord on Sunday (March 25, 2001) at Hospice of Genesis, Zanesville.

She was born May 29, 1936, in Passaic, N.J., daughter of the late Anthony Michael and Mildred B. (Eggonson) Silkowski.

Mrs. Macenko was an employee of the NCR plant in Cambridge for 23 years and was a former employee at Longaberger Co.

She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, where she was also belonged to the church choir. She was a member of the Greater Zanesville Singers.

She leaves her husband, Lawrence C. Macenko of the home; two daughters, Laura L. Gill of Zanesville, and Mrs. Rob (Beth) Summers of Cambridge; three sons, Leslie M. (Sara) Coleman of Westerville, Leonard M. (Barbara) Coleman of Gahanna, and Larry A. Macenko of Zanesville; two step-daughters, Mrs. Larney (Melissa) Lashley of Pleasant City, and Mrs. Terry (Brenda) Moore of Philo; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma R. Ivey of Cambridge, and Sr. Lillian M. Silkowski S.C. of Jersey City, N.J.; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hillis Funeral Home, Zanesville, where a Christian vigil will be 6 p.m.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Michael DeTemple officiating.

Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Zanesville.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church, Zanesville.

HARRY SHUMAN

Harry E. Shuman, 81, of Cambridge, died Monday (March 26, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements are pending at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge.
