NEWCOMERSTOWN — Violet E. Koren, 72, of Guernsey, died Sunday (March 25, 2001) at her home.

Arrangements are pending at Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown.

GATE CITY, Va. — John S. Emmert, 29, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Sunday (March 25, 2001) of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Caldwell.

Arrangements are pending at Gate City Funeral Home, Gate City.

BONNIE JEAN BENSON

1951-2001

BARNESVILLE — Bonnie Jean Benson, 49, of Barnesville, died Saturday (March 24, 2001) at her home.

She was born Sept. 9, 1951, in Canton, daughter of the late Margaret Nye Smith.

Mrs. Benson was a homemaker and owner/operator of Cute and Curley Kennel of Barnesville.

She was preceded in death by her foster father, Arthur Richardson; three brothers, Robert, Paul and Charles; a sister, Deborah; and a dear friend, Evelyn Phillips.

She leaves her husband, Francis Benson; her foster mother, Louise Richardson of Woodsfield; two sons, Paul Dennis Toohey of St. Clairsville and Randall Lee Toohey of Cadiz; four daughters, Brenda R. Thomas of Somerton, Sandra D. Rife of Leland, N.C., Rita J. Toohey and Barbara S. Van Horn, both of Barnesville; 15 grandchildren; five brothers, Harold Jr. Smith of Bethesda, Roy Joe Thompson of Brownsville, Jimmy Thompson of Woodsfield, Artie Thompson of Graysville and Rocky Thompson of St. Marys, W.Va.; two sisters, Betty Thompson and Sue Rice of West Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. with services to follow at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, Barnesville, with the Rev. Dale Epple officiating.
Burial will be in Chestnut Level Cemetery, Belmont.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or MADD.

EARL CURTIS JOHNSON SERVICES

1915-2001

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, for Earl Curtis Johnson, 85, of Cambridge, who died Saturday (March 24, 2001) at his home.

The Rev. Terry Tate will officiate. Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born Dec. 26, 1915, in Mineral Wells, W.Va., son of the late Everett Victor and Maude L. (Sams) Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a member of First Christian Church, Cambridge. He was a life member of Kipling VFW Post 7371. He was an Ohio operating engineer for 40 years.

He was a U.S. Army engineers veteran, having served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, C.O. Johnson and E.C. Johnson; three sisters, Zelma Johnson, Ruth Pierce and Evelyn Radcliff.

He leaves his wife, Laura Pearl Joy Johnson, whom he married Sept. 21, 1938; a son, Roger (Linda) Johnson of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Bob (Doris Jean) Hall of Mt. Gilead, Mrs. Ronald (Rosemary) Harding of New Concord and Mrs. Tom (Luella) Hanes of Cambridge; a brother-in-law, Jack Radcliff; a sister, Hazel Ankrom of Lutz, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.
