EARL CURTIS JOHNSON

                                                                  1915-2001

Earl Curtis Johnson, 85, of Cambridge, died Saturday (March 24, 2001) at his home.

He was born Dec. 26, 1915, in Mineral Wells, W.Va., son of the late Everett Victor and Maude L. (Sams) Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a member of First Christian Church, Cambridge. He was a life member of Kipling VFW Post 7371. He was an Ohio operating engineer for 40 years.

He was a U.S. Army engineers veteran, having served in World War II.

He leaves his wife, Laura Pearl Joy Johnson, whom he married Sept. 21, 1938; a son, Roger (Linda) Johnson of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Bob (Doris Jean) Hall of Mt. Gilead, Mrs. Ronald (Rosemary) Harding of New Concord, and Mrs. Tom (Louella) Hanes of Cambridge; four brothers, Donald (Lillian) Joy, George (Delores) Joy and Robert (Jerri) Joy all of Canton, and Franklin (Betty) Joy of Cambridge;13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Terry Tate officiating.

Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens. Military graveside services will be conducted by Guernsey County Veterans Council.

WILLIAM HOWARD STONER

COLUMBUS — William Howard Stoner Jr., 56, of Lebanon, died Thursday (March 22, 2001) at Bethesda North Hospital, Cincinnati.

Mr. Stoner was a life insurance underwriter for Great American Life Insurance Co., and formerly with Columbus Mutual Life Insurance Co.

He leaves his wife, Mary (Wildman) Stoner; a daughter, Shari A. Stoner; a son, William H. Stoner III; his parents, William H. Sr. and Betty Stoner; two sisters, Mrs. Lance (Susan) Fairchild and Beth Roach; four brothers, J. Robert Stoner, Richard Stoner, J. Randall (Trina) Stoner and Daniel (Laurie) Stoner; two grandchildren, Amanda Imhoff and Samantha Stoner; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Schoedinger North Chapel, Columbus, where services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday with Pastor Mark Ballmer officiating.

Graveside services and burial will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Most Pure Heart of Mary in Shelby.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society.


LEONARD ROCKLIN

Word has been received of the death of Leonard Rocklin, 81, of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Cambridge, who died Wednesday (March 21, 2001) in Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Benjamin and Eva Rocklin, former owners of The Fashion Shop on Wheeling Avenue in Cambridge.

Mr. Rocklin was a 1937 graduate of Cambridge High School. Following his college years he moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where he became a graphic artist, winning awards for his artwork for Capital Records and for his design on the front of The Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herb and Dan Rocklin.

He leaves a sister, Gloria London of Baltimore, Md.; and two brothers, Jerry Rocklin of Los Angeles, and Robert Rocklin of Baltimore, Md.

Services and burial were in Baltimore, Md.

MILLICENT B. KNIGHT

1913-2001

CADIZ — Millicent B. Knight, 87, of Cadiz, formerly of Syracuse, N.Y., died Saturday (March 24, 2001) at Carriage Inn, Cadiz.

She was born Oct. 14, 1913, in Walton, N.Y., daughter of the late Wade P. and Gertrude (Mills) Baxter.

Mrs. Knight was a former office manager at both Park Central Presbyterian Church in Syracuse, N.Y., and Onondaga Valley Presbyterian Church, Syracuse, N.Y., where she was also a member.

She was a retired office manager at Presbyterian Synod of the Northeast in Syracuse, N.Y.

She was an Elder and member of Presbyterian Church of Cadiz.

She was a member of Laubach Literacy Tutor in New York and Ohio and was a very active member of each of her churches.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Delmonte Baxter; an infant brother, Leo Baxter; a sister, Rose Martyn.

She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Andrew (Jackie) Hutyera of Cadiz; four granddaughters, Holly Hutyera of Syracuse, N.Y., Anne Douglas of Rocky Rover, Katherine Hutyera of Kent and Mary Hutyera of Athens; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace Douglas.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the home of her daughter, 431 St. Clair Ave., Cadiz.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Presbyterian Church of Cadiz with the Rev. William Hudson officiating.

Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Walton Cemetery, Walton, N.Y.

OTIS EUGENE BRADSHAW JR.

1935-2001

NEWCOMERSTOWN — Otis Eugene Bradshaw Jr., 65, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Newcomerstown, died Thursday (March 22, 2001) at his home, following an extended illness.

He was born Dec. 9, 1935, in Newcomerstown, son of Otis E. Bradshaw and the late Clara Mae (Dennis) Bradshaw.

Mr. Bradshaw was a 1954 graduate of Newcomerstown High School and had worked in sales for Western-Southern Insurance Co.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran from 1955 to 1959.

He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in New Philadelphia.

He enjoyed reading and the outdoors and loved flea marketing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne (Strunk) Bradshaw, who died June 18, 1986. They were married May 1, 1990.

He leaves four daughters, Mrs. Greg (Debra) Grewell of Dover, Mrs. Randy (Sherry) Conway of New Philadelphia, Sheryl Hines of New Lexington and Angela McFarland of New Philadelphia; a son, Jeffrey Eugene (Jill) Bradshaw of Fresno; three step-children, Bob Moyer of Coshocton, Thomas Moyer of Newcomerstown, and Eddie Moyer of Midvale; a sister, Sandy Keating of Newcomerstown; a brother, Roger (Sharon) Bradshaw of Lexington, Ky.; 13 grandchildren.

No calling hours will be observed. Keeping with Gene’s wishes the body will be cremated.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1212 Kelly St. NW, New Philadelphia.

M. LLOYD LAKE

1925-2001

LONDONDERRY — M. Lloyd Lake, 75, of Londonderry and Winter Haven, Fla., died Thursday (March 22, 2001) at Winter Haven Hospital in Florida.

He was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Londonderry, son of the late Homer C. and Florence T. (Arnold) Lake.

Mr. Lake was co-owner of the former Croskey-Lake Motor Sales of Cadiz. He was a member of the Londonderry United Methodist Church, Freeport Masonic Lodge 415 F&AM and Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge.

He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran having served during World War II.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Lake.

He leaves his wife, Helen (Wilson) Lake, whom he married June 28, 1947; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (LuAnn) Hurley of Hilliard; three sons, Larry (Debra) Lake of Hilliard, Terry (Linda) Lake and Mark (Patricia) Lake both of Londonderry; two sisters, Mildred and Marie lake of Londonderry; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Bond Funeral Home, Londonderry. Masonic services will be 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Wilson officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset View Cemetery, Londonderry. Military graveside services will be conducted by Guernsey County Veterans council.

MARTHA ‘POPE’ BURNS

1932-2001

Martha “Pope” Burns, 68, of Cambridge, died Thursday (March 22, 2001) in Stockbridge, Ga.

She was born June 24, 1932, in Cambridge, daughter of the late Robert Pope and Sarah Margaret (DeSelm) Diehl, who died in 1997.

Mrs. Burns was a retired school teacher and a member of First United Methodist Church, Cambridge.

She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Cambridge Education Association, Delta Gamma Sorority, Ohio Education Association and National Education Association.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

She leaves two sons, Timothy Burns of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Benjamin Burns of Medina; a brother, Robert D. Diehl of Cambridge.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Dr. Terry Litton officiating.

Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.

INA ELLEN HAYES

1922-2001

Word has been received of the death of Ina Ellen (McCracken) Hayes, 79, of Lady Lake, Fla., formerly of Old Washington, who died Friday (March 16, 2001) in Florida.

She was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Old Washington.

Mrs. Hayes was a former employee at the former St. Francis Hospital.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Tucker.

She leaves a son, Dale Hayes of Lady Lake, Fla.; two daughters, Jean Hayes of Lady Lake, Fla., and June Miller of New Concord; a sister, Virginia Berault of Florida; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Services were March 20 in Lady Lake. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Leesburg, Fla.
