Francis W. Armstrong

NEWCOMERSTOWN — Francis W. Armstrong, 67, of Newcomerstown, died Sunday (March 18, 2001) at his home.

He was born Aug. 9, 1933, in Burnside, Pa., son of the late Albert John and Frances (Fry) Armstrong.

Mr. Armstrong was retired owner of Armstrong’s Heating and Cooling of Newcomerstown.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Dover VFW Post 3468.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary (Ratay) Armstrong, on July 20, 1994. They were married April 29, 1960. Also deceased are three brothers, John Armstrong, George Armstrong and David Armstrong.

He leaves three daughters, Taunia DeMosley of Akron, Mrs. Tim (Rosemary) Drapcho of Dover and Mrs. Christopher (Karen) Dyer of Akron; a son, Roger (Michelle) Armstrong of Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren, Adam, Kayleigh and Eian Drapcho, Elizabeth Dyer and Bret, Sean and Matthew Armstrong; a brother, Charles “Chip” (Phyllis) Armstrong of California; three sisters, Avonel Hamlin, Au Vergne Matthews and Isabel Mars, all of California.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown, where services will follow at 1 p.m.

Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown. Military graveside services will be conducted by Newcomerstown Veterans Organization.

C. Ed Bornman

NEW CONCORD — C. Ed Bornman, 83, of Norwich, died Sunday (March 18, 2001) at Pine Valley Care Center, Richfield.

He was born May 24, 1917, in Akron, son of the late Andrew and Freada (Sattler) Bornman.

Mr. Bornman retired in 1980 from Davidson McNair Oil Co., Oil City, Pa., where he served as a shift foreman.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a former member of VFW, Ruritan and also Grange, all of New Concord.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry (Rip) Bornman.

He leaves his wife, Nelda (Burr) Bornman, whom he married Nov. 10, 1945; a son, Larry (Vicki) Bornman of Peninsula.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mock-Miller Funeral Home, New Concord, where services will be 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Ray Yody officiating.

Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, New Concord.

Sandra J. Fabian

BYESVILLE — Sandra J. Fabian, 60, of Cambridge, died Monday (March 19, 2001) at her home.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Black Family Funeral Service, Byesville. A Christian wake service will be 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Robert Borer officiating.

Janet M. (Jackson) Hebbe

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Janet M. (Jackson) Hebbe, 56, of Las Vegas, died Saturday (March 17, 2001) at Lake Mead Hospital Medical Center.

She was born April 12, 1944, in Erie, Pa., daughter of Georgie Jackson of Cambridge, Ohio, and the late Virgil Jackson Sr.

Ms. Hebbe was a retired casino supervisor. She worked at the Golden Nugget for eight years. She had been a resident of Nevada since 1968.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dewane Jackson; and a sister, Mary J. Norris.

She leaves a companion, Edward Ransome; three sons, Anthony Fisher, Eddie Fisher and Edward Ransom, all of Las Vegas; five sisters, Betty White of Colorado Springs, Colo., Wanda Hughes of Las Vegas, and Rachel Jackson, Geraldine Hughes and Lorraine Jackson, all of Cambridge; six brothers, Clifford Manard of Cleveland, Gerald Jackson of Las Vegas, Ralph Jackson, Lawrence Jackson and Burkey Jackson, all of Cambridge, and Virgil Jackson Jr. of Renville; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Palm Mortuary, Las Vegas, where services will be noon Friday.

A memorial service for local family and friends will be 1 p.m. Thursday at at St. Paul CME Church, Cambridge, with the Rev. Randolph White officiating.


Ralph R. Slack

NEWCOMERSTOWN — Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown, for Ralph R. Slack, 74, of West Lafayette, who died Monday (March 19, 2001) at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. David R. Curry and Pastor James Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery, West Lafayette.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

He was born March 24, 1926, in White Eyes Township, Coshocton County, son of the late Rudolph and Edith (Ott) Slack.

Mr. Slack was a 1944 graduate of Fresno High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.

He retired in 1986 from General Electric Coshocton, after 39 years of service as a group leader.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, West Lafayette, where he served as a trustee, and was a member of Disciples Sunday school class at the church.

He was a life member of Newcomerstown Elks Lodge 1555. He was a member of Chili Grange, Coshocton County, Coshocton United Steelworkers Local 4377, Coshocton County AAA, and was a former member of SOAR Club, Coshocton County. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling and golfing.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Mullet.

He leaves his wife, Norma J. (Craigo) Slack of West Lafayette, whom he married Aug. 7, 1949; three sisters, Mrs. Forest (Mary) Hicks of Ragersville, Mrs. Amos (Zelma) Green of Glendale, Ariz. and Mrs. Allen (Jan) Nunley of Cleveland, Tenn.; a half-sister, Viola Lorenz of Dover; a brother-in-law, Joseph (Jane) Craigo of Avon Park, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
