Shirley A. Allen

NEW CONCORD — Shirley A. Allen, 70, formerly of Clagett Road, New Concord, died Wednesday (March 14, 2001) at O.D.C. Nursing Home in Zanesville.

She was born Feb. 11, 1931, in Norwich, daughter of Cincelle Scott Clagett of New Concord and the late Robert L. Clagett.

Mrs. Allen was a member of East Union Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne C. Allen, who died March 22, 1976; and a brother, Leslie A. Clagett.

She leaves four daughters, Mrs. Rexall (Donna) Moore and Peggy Richards, both of New Concord, Mrs. Randy (Janeen) Bonifant of Zanesville and Mrs. Patrick (Charlene) Barr of Springfield; a son, Wayne C. (Joyce) Allen of New Concord; two sisters, Wanda Abrams of New Concord and Phyllis Slosky of Middleburg Heights; two brothers, Neal Scott Clagett and Robert L.L. Clagett, both of New Concord; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Mock-Miller Funeral Home, New Concord, where services will be 10 a.m. Saturday with Pastor William Blair officiating.

Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, New Concord.

Albert D. 'A.D.' Blancett

Albert D. “A.D.” Blancett, 88, of Cambridge, died Wednesday (March 14, 2001) at his home.

He was born Sept. 29, 1912, in Little Kate, son of the late James and Maggie (Sills) Blancett.

Mr. Blancett was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.

He worked most of his life as a mechanic. He had worked for Blancett Brothers Garage and G.H. White Chrysler-Plymouth Garage, also at NAPA as a machinist. He retired from RCA after 25 years working at the Cambridge plant, and the Eastern Test Range (Grand Bahama and Ascension Island).

He was a lifetime member of Robert T. Secrest VFW Post 2901 and the Cambridge Amateur Radio Association (W8BMS). He was a member of Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 386.

Mr. Blancett enjoyed listening to all types of music and in his younger days enjoyed playing banjo and guitar with his friends at different local events. He also enjoyed talking about history, politics, personal experiences and telling jokes. Albert often said, “If I get a smile out of you, you made my day.” He will be remembered as a loving, dedicated husband and family man.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary V. “Irish” (McStay) Blancett, who died Nov. 22, 1995. They were married Nov. 19, 1945. Also deceased are three brothers, Fred Blancett, Bob Blancett and Ernie Blancett; four sisters, Edith Alexa, Florence Legrean, Bessie Ruby and Verna Blancett.

He leaves a son, James M. (Nancy) Blancett of Cambridge; a daughter, Pat Perkins of Cambridge; a sister, Mrs. John (Norma Jean) Hughes of Cambridge; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Fr. Robert Borer officiating. Eagles Aerie 386 will have services at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.


Joseph Sylvester Doudna

BARNESVILLE — Joseph Sylvester Doudna, 88, of Barnesville, died Wednesday (March 14, 2001) at his home.

He was born Aug. 6, 1912, on the family farm in Barnesville, son of the late Dilwyn W. and Edith R. (Carter) Doudna.

Mr. Doudna was a member of Fairhope Friends Meeting in Fairhope, Ala., and Chestnut Ridge Friends Meeting in Barnesville. He retired from Watt Car & Wheel Co. and Doudna’s Orchard.

He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Doudna; and a daughter, Rebecca Doudna.

He leaves his wife, Virginia C. (Copeland) Doudna; three sons, Clarence (Vickie), Leslie (Victoria) and James (Brenda), all of Barnesville; four sisters, Margery Peacock and Elma May Hall, both of Barnesville, Waunita Bundy of Springfield and Ruth Hall of Burgettstown, Pa.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville. The service will be After the Manner of Friends at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery.

Betty L. Foster

WOODSFIELD — Betty L. Foster, 73, of Woodsfield, died Wednesday (March 14, 2001) at Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born June 7, 1927, in Pine Grove, W.Va., daughter of the late Samuel and Olive (Barr) Cain.

Mrs. Foster was a trustee of Praise Pentecostal Fellowship Church of Woodsfield.

She was an employee of the former K.V. Store of Woodsfield and an employee of the former Needle Nook, also of Woodsfield.

She had worked as a clerk for the Green Thumb Program at the Woodsfield Municipal Building.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond F. Foster, who died in 1997; two brothers, Charles Cain and Warren Cain, and an infant brother.

She leaves a son, Charles F. Foster of Waynesburg, Pa.; two daughters, Susan Yocca of Woodsfield and Zella (Sarah) Foster of Brockville, Ontario, Canada; two brothers, Samuel Cain of Florida and Wayne Cain of Utah; a sister, Ellen Cain of Vandalia; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services will be 1 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Paul Ferguson officiating.

Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

Wilma Irene Callihan

BYESVILLE — Wilma Irene Callihan, 74, of Farmington Hills, Mich., died Feb. 24, 2001, in Michigan.

She was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Byesville, daughter of the late George and Mary (Miller) Todd.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth B. Callihan; a granddaughter, Tracy Lynn Voorhies; a sister, Dorothy Fleming.

She leaves two sons, Terry Callihan of Cambridge and Randy Callihan of Caldwell; a daughter, Nancy Bash of Detroit, Mich.; a sister, Juanita Todd of Dennison; a brother, Elbert Todd of Derwent; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were at Black Family Funeral Service, Byesville.

Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville.


Sabra Ann 'Sally' O'Leary

COLUMBUS — Sabra Ann “Sally” O’Leary, 69, of Upper Arlington, mother of a Cambridge woman, died Monday (March 12, 2001) at The Ohio State University Medical Hospital.

Mrs. O’Leary was chairman of the board of the Edward M. O’Leary Co. for more than 25 years.

She was a 1949 graduate of Grandview High School and active member of the Grandview Alumni Association.

She was an avid artist and enjoyed craft work, especially birdhouses and Christmas items.

She was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and William C. Bell.

She leaves her husband of 47 years, Alan E. O’Leary; two daughters, Mrs. C. Keith (Carrie) Plummer of Cambridge and Mrs. Tim (Susan) Kearns of Columbus; four grandchildren, Lizzie Kearns, Andy Kearns, Jessica Plummer and Michael Plummer; two nephews, David C. Bell of Centerburg and Steven A. Bell of Dresden; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Rob (Eleanor) Riber of Alfred, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Daniel (Chicquita) O’Leary of Flossmoor, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, with a memorial service to follow at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. James Sledge officiating.

Burial will be at a later date.

Ann I. Grywalsky

BYESVILLE — Services will be 11 a.m. today at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Cambridge, for Ann I. Grywalsky, 79, of Byesville, who died Sunday (March 11, 2001) at her home.

The Rev. Father Robert Borer will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Byesville.

Calling hours were Wednesda at Black Family Funeral Service, Byesville.

She was born April 12, 1921, in Mt. Zion, daughter of the late Joseph and Annie (Novsjovsky) Killiany.

Mrs. Grywalsky was a homemaker and a member of both Holy Trinity and St. Benedict Catholic Churches. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club at Holy Trinity.

She enjoyed playing bingo and baking for everyone. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Grywalsky, who died Aug. 8, 1987; four brothers, Steve, Joe, John and Andy; two sisters, Dorothy and Mary; and a grandson, John.

She leaves three sons, Robert (Anita) Grywalsky of Buffalo, John (Angie) Grywalsky of Byesville and James (Brenda) Grywalsky of Little Hocking; a daughter, Mrs. Everett (Tina) Wright of Senecaville; a brother, Paul Killiany of Byesville; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
