Lois M. Williams

Lois M. Williams, 97, of Cambridge, died Sunday (March 11, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 4, 1903, in Cambridge, daughter of the late Rev. Harmount and Mrs. Phoebe (Hilliard) Baumgardner.

Mrs. Williams was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star Chapter 211.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. Williams, on July 2, 1970; a sister; an infant brother; a granddaughter, Linda Lee.

She leaves a daughter, Eloise Williams of Cambridge; a son, Theodore Alfred (Norma Jean) Williams of Columbus; a grandson, Thomas Williams of Columbus; two nephews, Dr. Robert Spangler of Buffalo, N.Y., and Dr. John D. Spangler of Denver, Colo.; a niece, Pamela Johnson of Tupelo, Miss.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, with the Rev. Dr. Terry Litton officiating.

Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.

Rev. Raymond Rice

BYESVILLE — The Rev. Raymond Rice, 74, of Byesville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday (March 13, 2001) at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville.

He was born Aug. 24, 1926, in Cambridge, son of the late Phillip H. and Roxanna (St. Clair) Rice I.

Rev. Rice was a retired holiness evangelist. He pastored Four Mile Hill and Coal Ridge Churches of Christ in Christian Union. Over the last 40 years the Rev. Rice traveled throughout the country preaching and singing the gospel of Christ. He was ordained by the International Conservative Holiness Association of Indiana. He was a member of Church of Christ in Christian Union.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip H. Rice II.

He leaves his wife, Betty L. Mason, who he married March 23, 1953, in Richmond, Ind. He also is survived by a son, Raymond (Elizabeth) Rice of Oil City, Pa.; two daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Deborah) Gladhill and Mrs. Donald (Roxanna “Beth”) Hutchison, both of Byesville; a sister, Roxanna Ruth Schriver of Cambridge; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Black Family Funeral Service, Byesville.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Derwent Church of Christ in Christian Union with the Rev. Amos Tillis officiating.

Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.

Nellie L. Fleming

NEWCOMERSTOWN — Nellie L. Fleming, 91, a resident of Hickory Creek Nursing Home, The Plains, formerly of Frys Valley Road, Port Washington, Panhandle, Texas, and Benton, Ill., died Monday (March 12, 2001) at Doctors’ Hospital, Nelsonville, following an extended illness.

She was born May 12, 1909, in Wagoner, Okla., daughter of the late Luther O. and Alice (Dugger) Smith.

Mrs. Fleming was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church in Panhandle, where she attended Sunday school.

While a resident of Port Washington, she attended the First Baptist Church and its adult Sunday school class.

She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Fleming, on May 24, 1986. They were married Aug. 13, 1926.

She leaves a daughter, the Rev. and Mrs. (Paula F.) Schwab of The Plains; a son, Jackie L. (Joan) Fleming of Marion, Ill.; a brother, Paul J. (Opal) Smith of Wagoner, Okla.; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown, where services will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Paul R. Silvus officiating.

Additional visitation will be at Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, Ill.

Burial will be in Masonic-Oddfellows Cemetery.

Gladys Green

CALDWELL — Gladys Green, 78, of Belle Valley, died Tuesday (March 13, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.

She was born Nov. 2, 1922, in Mt. Ephraim, daughter of the late Richard and Molly Spencer.

Mrs. Green was a homemaker and a former employee of the Essex Wire Co. in Zanesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert Green, on Nov. 16, 1986; a son, Melvin E. Green; a step-son, Walter W. Green; three brothers; five sisters.

She leaves two sons, Richard M. Green of Byesville, and Robert M. Green of New Concord; a step-son, Charles Edward Green, with whom she resided; a step-daughter, Ardith Hildebrand of Arkansas; a sister, Francis Stauffer of Massillon; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where services will be 11 a.m. Thursday with Evangelist Richard Harris officiating.

Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.
