Lois Margaret 'Peg' Richert
1906-2001

Lois Margaret “Peg” (McCandless) Richert, 94, of Masonic Village in Sewickley, Pa., died Monday (Feb. 5, 2001).

She was born July 14, 1906, in Mars, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Richert; a brother, Dale T. McCandless; and a sister, Esther (McCandless) Boone.

She leaves a nephew, William R. (Dolores) McCandless; a great-niece, Beth Ellen McCandless; a great-nephew, Todd Robert McCandless; two great-great-nephews, Tighe Andrew McCandless and Arin Renee McCandless.

Mrs. Richert was a 1928 graduate of Muskingum College, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in English and history. She joined the staff of her alma mater in 1961 as the director of Finney Hall and was later appointed the coordinator of social affairs and served the college until her retirement in 1986. She is past president of Silver Spring Maryland Women’s Club, the New Concord Women’s Forum and the Women’s Association at College Drive Presbyterian Church.

She was a member of General Federation of Women’s Clubs, American Association of University Women and had served on the board of directors of the Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Friday at Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home Inc., Avalon, (Pittsburgh).

Burial will be in Allegheny County Memorial Park, Allison Park.

Earl G. Caunter

Word had been received of the death of Earl G. Caunter, 84, of Kirtland, who died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001).

Mr. Caunter lived in Kimbolton for 24 years.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Virginia Caunter; two children, Jeff Caunter and Gay Muzie; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Esther G. Johnston

1931-2001

CUMBERLAND — Esther G. (Mineard) Johnston, 69, of Cumberland, died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at Red Carpet Health Care Center, Cambridge.

She was born Oct. 1, 1931, in Indiana, Pa., daughter of the late J.C. and Maize Mineard.

Mrs. Johnston was a retired Avon representative.

She leaves her husband, Robert “Swab” Johnston, whom she married July 20, 1966; six sons, Bill (Wanda) Bozarth, Lloyd “Sam” Bozarth, Kenneth (Cathy) Bozarth, Robert (Leesha) Johnston Jr. and Howard Johnston and close friend, Brenda; six daughters, Mrs. Robert (Bonnie) Wolfe, Rebecca Bailey, Mrs. Clarence (Vickie) Doudna, Mildred Bozarth Hall, her fiance´ Tim Kincaid, Mrs. Darren (Sarah) Bourst and Deborah Johnston and Evan McKenna; 30 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Tom & Farus Funeral Home, Cumberland, with services to follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Leonard Burson officiating.

Burial will be in Cumberland Cemetery.

John Owen Harbold

NEWCOMERSTOWN — John Owen Harbold, 59, of Guntersville, Ala., died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.

He is the son of the late Estella (Norris) Jones.

He leaves his wife, Billie (Ellis) Harbold; two daughters, Jacqueline Sturtz of Kimbolton and Debbie Harbold of Michigan; two step-daughters, Tina Mathis and Donna Hursey, both of Boaz, Ala.; a son, John Paul Harbold of Barberton; five step-sons, Chuck Corbin and Brian Corbin, both of Boaz, Ala., Michael Lay of Leeds, Ala., John Lay of Pinson, Ala., and Joey Lay of Locust Fork, Ala.; a sister, Margaret Dauphin of Barnesville; a brother, Dick Vandel of Alliance; and 23 grandchildren.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown.

Graveside services and burial will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown.

Sherry Lee Nyako

1946-2001

WARREN — Sherry Lee (Palmer) Nyako, 54, of Lake Milton, died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at her home following an apparent heart attack.

She was born Dec. 5, 1946, in Massillon, daughter of Richard and Thelma (Dawson) Palmer of Senecaville.

Mrs. Nyako retired from Delphi Packard Electric in 1997 after 32 years of service as a artos cutter.

She enjoyed cooking, collecting books, gardening and boating.

She was a 1964 graduate of Lakeview High School and attended Youngstown State University.

She leaves her husband, Donald Nyako of Lake Milton, whom she married June 29, 1981; a son, Jeffrey Nyako of Howland; a daughter, Linda Astolfi of Howland; two granddaughters; and a sister, Mrs. Thomas (Kathy) Palmer Newcomb of Parkman.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday with services to follow at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, Warren.

Burial will be in Meadow Brook Memorial Park, Warren.

Hilda M. Burkhart

1926-2001

WOODSFIELD — Hilda M. Burkhart, 74, of Woodsfield, died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at Bishop Joseph H. Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling, W.Va.

She was born June 5, 1926, near Miltonsburg, daughter of the late Clemence and Victoria (Carpenter) Butler.

Mrs. Burkhart was a homemaker and a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, where she was a member of the Purgatorial Society and the Catholic Women’s Club. She was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Ladies Auxiliary of Woodsfield.

She leaves her husband, Herman J. Burkhart, whom she married June 8, 1943; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Marlene) Yonak Jr. of Centerville; three sons, Donald (Marlene) Burkhart of Malaga, Gary (Victoria) Burkhart of Woodsfield and Terry (Carol) Burkhart of Raleigh Durham, N.C.; a brother, Vernon (Cinderella) Butler of Woodsfield; a sister, Mrs. Glenn (Hazel) Kanzigg of Beallsville; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield. Vigil services will be 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Hamm serving as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Sylvester Catholic Cemetery, Woodsfield.

Dennis W. Goulden

1949-2001

CARROLLTON — Dennis W. Goulden, 51, of Louisville, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at Aultman Hospital, Canton.

He was born July 24, 1949, in Cambridge, son of Richard W. and Ferne (McKibben) Goulden of Westchester.

Mr. Goulden retired from Shenango Co. in Dover, where he served as a machinist. He was a self-employed computer consultant, having started Goulden and Associates where he was a consultant for many firms.

He leaves his wife, Becky (Taylor) Goulden, whom he married May 30, 1987; two sons, Michael W. Goulden of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Benjamin R. Goulden, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. James ( Melanie) Johnson of Urichsville; his mother-in-law, Bertha Taylor of Cumberland; his former wife, Linda Smith Goulden of Westchester.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Allmon-Dugger & Hively Funeral Home, Carrollton, where services will be 11 a.m. Monday.

A memorial service will be in Cumberland at the convenience of the family.

John H. White

1913-2001

NEW CONCORD — John H. White, 87, formerly of Shadyside Drive, New Concord, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at The Beckett House, New Concord, after suffering a stroke Dec. 28, 2000.

He was born Aug. 12, 1913, in New Concord, son of the late Clair and Mary (McVay) White.

Mr. White was a retired farmer and strawberry grower. He was a former social worker for the Muskingum County Welfare Department.

He was a member of College Drive Presbyterian Church. He was a former Union Township trustee and a former member of the New Concord School Board, a former Republican committeeman and former member of both New Concord Grange and Farm Bureau.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel M. Emler White, who died Oct. 27, 1984; and three brothers, Bill White, Chal White and Lee White.

He leaves a son, Donald (Sandy) White of New Concord; a brother, Mac S. White of Pittsburgh; and three grandchildren, Darrin (Robin) White of Delaware, Brian White of New Concord and Angie White of New Concord; a great-grandson, Jonathan White of Delaware.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Mock-Miller Funeral Home, New Concord, where services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Douglas Blaikie officiating.

Burial will be in New Concord Cemetery.

Janice V. Bailey

BYESVILLE — Janice V. Bailey, 62, of Byesville, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at her home.

Arrangements are pending at Black Family Funeral Service, Byesville.

William E. Truex

BARNESVILLE — William E. Truex, 75, of Jerusalem, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at Barnesville Hospital.

Arrangements are pending at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville.

Margaret J. 'Peg' Frasher

1921-2001

BARNESVILLE — Margaret J. “Peg” Frasher, 79, of Barnesville, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at Barnesville Health Care Center.

She was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Barnesville, daughter of the late Morrison Remick “Russ” and Anna Marguerite (Keadle) Kemp.

Mrs. Frasher was a former employee of the GC Murphy Co. in Barnesville. She was a member of East Main Street Church of Christ in Barnesville, Rosewood Twig, Women’s International Bowling Congress and Belmont Grange.

She was a former Girl Scout leader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wilkes Frasher; a son, John Allen Frasher; a great-granddaughter, Chelsea Nicole Keadle.

She leaves two sons, Terry Frasher of Sebring and Dean Frasher of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Shirley Keadle of Barnesville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, Barnesville, where services will be 1 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Rodney West officiating.

Burial will be in Southern Cemetery, Barnesville.
