K. Ralph Atkinson
K. Ralph Atkinson, 80, of Kettering, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, in Dayton.
He was born Sept. 30, 1918, in Barnesville, son of Guy C. and Sarah F. Atkinson.
Mr. Atkinson lived in Dayton since 1950. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific.
He was post commander of VFW Post 2792, Barnesville. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, Kettering.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Kennard Atkinson; a daughter, Patricia; an infant son, John R.; a brother, R. Dale and wife Betty Jo; a brother, Gene; a brother-in-law, Herman Gallagher; a step-son, Douglas.
He leaves his wife of 32 years, Hazel M. (Strukamp) Atkinson; a son, K. Ralph II (Mildred) of Brookville; a daughter, Mrs. David (Melissa) Kooistra of Florida; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; four brothers, Lawrence (Betty Jane) of Dover, Guy J. (Louise) of Massillon, Jack (Kathleen) of Senecaville, Tom (Betty Jane) of Cambridge; a sister, Mrs. Herman (Carole) Gallagher of Barnesville.
Mass of Christian burial was Friday, Feb. 2 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Kettering.
ORVILLE BAGLEY
DUNCAN FALLS — Orville J. “O.J.” Bagley, 67, of Duncan Falls, died Saturday (Feb. 3, 2001) at Genesis Hospice.
He was born Aug. 24, 1933, in Zanesville, son of Laura Hina Bagley of Zanesville, and the late Orville J. Bagley Sr.
Mr. Bagley retired from Glacier Clevite in McConnelsville in 1991. He was a member of Duncan Falls Presbyterian Church.
He was well known in the area as a square dance caller, and was a member of the Country Western Hall of Fame.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena Bagley, on July 4, 1973; three brothers, Raymond, David and Robert Bagley; a grandson, Jason Huffman.
He leaves four daughters, Mrs. John (Debbie) Britton of Hopewell, Mrs. Mark (Randi) McHenry of Zanesville, Mrs. Bill (Gina) Scott of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Carla Thomas of Zanesville; two sons, Douglas Bagley of Gaysport and Bill (Stephanie) Bagley of Zanesville; five brothers, Clifford Bagley of Hopewell, Russell Bagley, Howard Bagley and Chester Bagley, all of Zanesville, and Kenny Bagley of California; five sisters, Kathryn Leonard, Venelia Tracy, Goldie Paxton, Dorothy McWhorter, all of Zanesville, and Laura Wisecarver of Adamsville; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson-Farus Funeral Home, Duncan Falls, where services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Mary Gene Boteler officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Duncan Falls Presbyterian Church or Genesis Hospice.
SIDNEY ENGLISH
WOODSFIELD — Sidney C. English, 83, of Graysville, died Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, W.Va.
He was born Jan. 3, 1918, in Rinard Mills, son of the late Clark E. and Minnie Marie (Burkhart) English.
Mr. English retired from United States Postal Service, where he served for 33 years. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ, where he had served as an Elder for many years.
He was a U.S. veteran of World War II. He was a charter member of Graysville Volunteer Fire Department. He served on Graysville Village Council for many years.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Gene English; two brothers, Kenneth and Donald English.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Betty (Gray) English of Graysville; three sons, Clark Edmund “Ed” (Shirlyn) English of Beallsville, Garry (Linda) English of Woodsfield and Bruce English of Graysville; two daughters, Phyllis Hibinger of Caldwell and Janice Christman of Marietta; a brother, John English of Kentucky; four sisters, Lois Griffin and Mary Annette Cline, both of Woodsfield, Amanda English of Rinard Mills and Marilyn Elias of Canton; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services will be 1 p.m. Thursday with ministers John Hamilton and Harold B. Kinney officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, near Graysville.

MELVIN GRAY SR.
Melvin Ronald Gray Sr., 78, of Cambridge, died Sunday (Feb. 4, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.
He was born Dec. 12, 1922, in Kings Mine, son of the late John Samuel Gray and Elfie Mae (Touvell) Gray Sheeler.
Mr. Gray was a retired glass worker, having worked at Cambridge Glass, Cambridge Pottery and Variety Glass. He also worked at RCA.
He was a member of Eagles Aerie 386. He was an avid bowler, and a bingo caller at Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center. He was a 1940 graduate of Brown High School and a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Thomas K. Sheeler; a daughter, Deborah Anne Gray; three brothers, Leo, Raymond and John Gray; two sisters, Leona McAuley and Garnet Likes.
He leaves his wife, Leota B. (Redd) Gray of the home, whom he married April 10, 1943; a son, Melvin (Nancy) Gray Jr. of Cambridge; three daughters, Mrs. David (Sharon) Moore of Cambridge, Mrs. Thomas (Elizabeth) Stefano of St. Marys, Pa., and Mrs. Emmanuel (Cynthia) Bertubin of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Goldie Shockley of New Concord; two sisters-in-law, Esther Gray of Senecaville and Joyce Gray of Cambridge; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 11 a.m. Thursday.
EVELYN MCVICKER
ZANESVILLE — Evelyn M. McVicker, 75, of Zanesville, died Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) at Cedar Hill Care Center, Zanesville.
She was born March 8, 1925, in Noble County, daughter of the late Harry and Lura (Hannum) Rates.
Mrs. McVicker retired from International Motor Freight. She was a foster grandparent at Bethesda Hospital.
She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and bingo. She treated nieces and nephews as if they were her own children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. McVicker, on July 15, 1981.
She leaves two brothers, Glen (Wilma) Bates and Donald Bates and friend Jo, all of Sarahsville; a foster brother, Martin (Iris) Bates of Zanesville; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and cousins.

at Bryan Funeral Home, Zanesville, where services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday
with Pastor Terry Rowland officiating.

MELISSA TAYLOR
Melissa L. Taylor, 27, of Senecaville, died Sunday (Feb. 4, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.
She was born Jan. 26, 1974, in Cincinnati, daughter of Maynard Stamper of Cincinnati and Mary E. (Randolph) Caldwell of Byesville.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Stamper.
Mrs. Taylor was activities director at Bell Nursing Home, Kimbolton.
She leaves three children, Mercedes, Garyn and Matthew Taylor of Cumberland; her fiance´, Jay C. Buckey of Senecaville; two sisters, Mrs. Wayne (Cathy) Milhoan and Janie Stamper, both of Byesville; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Scott Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Charles Caldwell.
Burial will be in Kimbolton Cemetery.
