Dana I. Farley
1911-2001

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Mrs. Dana I. Farley, 89, of Parkersburg, W.Va., died Wednesday (Feb. 1, 2001) at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 31, 1911, in Fullerton, Ky., daughter of the late Perry and Sallie (Fannin) Bryson.

Mrs. Farley was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Parkersburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Farley, in 1993. They were married Feb. 15, 1930. Also deceased are three brothers, Forrest, Floyd and Paul Bryson; and two sisters, Merle Abshear and Alma Popazivanov.

She leaves a son, Jack (Pat) Farley of Cambridge, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Dan (Freda) Kimsey of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Debbie Clark of Huntington, Karen Sward of Burr Ridge, Ill., Vicki Lytle of Belpre, Ohio, Amy Mayne of Grove City, Ohio, and Jared Farley of Oxford, Ohio; five great-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; a great-great-grandchild.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Roberson Funeral Home, South Shore, Ky., with services to follow at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Troy Todd officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, South Shore, Ky.

Clarence J. 'Jack' Gibson

1919-2001

NEW CONCORD — Clarence J. “Jack” Gibson, 81, of Norwich, died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville, following a brief illness.

He was born March 9, 1919, in Akron, son of the late Clarence R. and Lulu Mae (Taylor) Gibson.

Mr. Gibson was a retired heating contractor and a former employee of Clyde E. Thompson Funeral Home and Thompson Furniture, Duncan Falls.

He was a Protestant by faith and a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Hemmer and Marie Taylor; and a brother, Ivory Gibson.

He leaves his wife, Betty L. Archer Gibson, whom he married Nov. 30, 1940; a son, Gerry (Jolene) Gibson of New Concord; a sister, Christine Hughes of Norwich; three grandchildren, Randy Gibson, Ryan Gibson and Tina Allen; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Mock-Miller Funeral Home, New Concord, where services will be 1 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Ray Yody officiating.

Burial will be in Norwich Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Mary Ellen (Polk) Smith

1911-2001

EVERGREEN PARK, Ill. — Mary Ellen (Polk) Smith, 89, of Evergreen, Ill., formerly of Zanesville and Cambridge, Ohio, died recently in Evergreen Park.

She was born March 25, 1911, in Zanesville, daughter of the late Charles Polk and Helen Olenczuk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Smith Jr.; and a brother, Carl.

She leaves two sons, the Rev. Msgr. Francis J. Smith P.A. and Fredrick C. Smith (Ret. C.P.D.); two brothers, Fredrick (Linda) Polk and Joseph (Norma) Polk; and a sister, Roseanne Cochran.

Calling hours were Wednesday at Brady-Gill Funeral Home, Evergreen Park.

Services will be at St. Raphael Catholic Church.

Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, El Paso, Texas.

Elizabeth C. 'Libby' Jackson

1941-2001

COSHOCTON — Elizabeth C. “Libby” Jackson, 59, of Coshocton, died Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2001) at her home.

She was born Sept. 22, 1941, in Cambridge, daughter of Christine S. (Hulka) Nugent of Cambridge, and the late Lawrence Paul Nugent.

Mrs. Jackson was a 1959 graduate of St. Benedict High School in Cambridge. She was a telephone operator for Coshocton County Memorial Hospital for 16 years, prior to becoming disabled in 1996.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Coshocton.

She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Patrick Jackson.

She leaves her husband, Richard B. Jackson of Coshocton, whom she married Aug. 31, 1963; a son, Eric R. (Rebecca) Jackson of Ferndale, Mich.; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Jackson of Columbus; four brothers, Lawrence E. Nugent of Cambridge, James A. (Rose) Nugent of Duluth, Ga., William J Nugent of Longmont, Colo., Paul M. (Debbie) Elkhorn, Neb.; five sisters, Sister Mary Ann Nugent of Manitowoc, Wis., Barbara J. Nugent and Mrs. William (Margaret C.) Ditto, both of Cambridge, Mrs. Henry (Winifred C.) Wells of Lore City, and Mrs. Jerry (Patricia M.) Jones of Columbus; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Free Funeral Home, Coshocton, where Christian wake services will be at 5 p.m..

Mass of the Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, Coshocton, with Msgr. Robert Schneider serving as celebrant.

Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cambridge, with the Rev. Father Robert Borer officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Coshocton County, P.O. Box 1284, Coshocton, OH 43812. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

George H. Wolverton

1924-2001

George H. Wolverton, 76, of Cambridge, died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at his home.

He was born May 15, 1924, in Cambridge, son of the late Gay and Nettie (Hall) Wolverton.

Mr. Wolverton was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a laborer at Cherry Tire.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Wolverton, on April 19, 1994; a son, John Wolverton; two brothers, Fred and Paul Wolverton; and a sister, Sylvia Wolverton.

He leaves two sons, Kirk (Mary Anne) Wolverton of Cambridge, and Dustin (Diana) Wolverton of Irvine, Calif.; a daughter, Candace Vickers of Cambridge; a brother, Stan Wolverton of Largo, Fla.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Scott Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. William Cain officiating.

Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.

Frances C. Gillespie

Frances C. Gillespie, 91, of Quaker City, died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Cambridge.

Arrangements are pending at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge.

John Nethers

1935-2001

FRAZEYSBURG — John Nethers, 65, of Hopewell, died Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2001) at University Hospital, Columbus.

He was born Oct. 28, 1935, in Columbus, son of the late John Walter and Verna (Boyle) Nethers.

Mr. Nethers was a 1953 graduate of Frazeysburg High School. He retired in 1986 from Rockwell International of Heath, where he served as a machinist.

He attended Nashport United Methodist Church, and was a member of Jackson Lodge 85 F&AM.
He enjoyed collecting and working with antique tractors and was a former member of the Legend Valley Antique Tractor Club.

He was a former member of Ohio Gun Collectors Association.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Tony Martinez.

He leaves his wife, Kay (Cowgill) Nethers, whom he married Dec. 21, 1956; a son, John W. (Michelle) Nethers II of Louisville, Ky.; four daughters, Rosemary Barboza of Frazeysburg, Peggy Morgan of Hopewell, Mrs. Howard (Cathy) Boykin of Zanesville, and Lorrie Abel of Dover; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Vensil-Orr Funeral Home, Frazeysburg, where services will be 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Roger McElfresh officiating.

Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
