Celine Gladman
1914-2001

Word has been received of the death of Celine (Collart) Gladman, 86, of Catonsville, Md., who died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at her home.

She was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Cambridge, daughter of the late Henry and Celine (Thomas) Collart.

Mrs. Gladman was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Gladman Sr.; a son, Raymond H. Gladman; and a brother, Eugene Collart.

She leaves two sons, John H. (Laverne) Gladman and Robert M. (Elisa) Gladman; a daughter, Mrs. Will (Yvonne) Hiewsky; a daughter-in-law, Diane Saunders; a brother, Henry (Mary) Collart of Sandusky; and several cousins in the Cambridge area.

David J. Weber Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Burial was in Lorraine Park Cemetery in Maryland.

Albert Cepek

BYESVILLE — Albert Cepek, 90, of Cumberland, died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.

Arrangements are pending at Black Family Funeral Services, Byesville.

Maj. Gerald Rex Noble

1923-2001

NEW CONCORD — Gerald Rex Noble, 77, of Zanesville, died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at Genesis-Bethesda Hospital in Zanesville following a long illness.

He was born Dec. 10, 1923, in New Concord, son of Pauline Noble Duitch of Zanesville and the late John Leo Noble, who died July 19, 1963.

He was a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in New Concord and graduated from New Concord High School in 1941. He attended Muskingum College and then was drafted by the U.S. Army. He served the military in World War II in a distinguished manner. His awards included the French Croix de Guerre, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. His distinguished military career spanned 30 years, including active Army and National Guard service. He retired with the rank of major.

Mr. Noble also was a former manager of the Cambridge office of the former Ohio Bureau of Employment Services and was in management at state park lodges, including Salt Fork and Burr Oak.

He was a member of VFW Post 1058 of Zanesville, Veterans of The Battle of the Bulge and the Eagles and Elks lodges of Zanesville.

In addition to his mother, he leaves a special friend, Vivian E. Sims of Zanesville; a daughter, Kimberly J. Noble of Sagamore Hills; three sons, Randall W. Noble, John (Kerry) Noble of Caldwell and Charles V. Noble of Zanesville; two sisters, Mrs. Jim (Kay) Ballantine of Glenford and Carol Vance of Denver, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

Friends and family may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Mock-Miller Funeral Home in New Concord, where services will be 1 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Martin Radcliff officiating.

Burial will be in New Concord Cemetery with military graveside services by VFW Post 1058 of Zanesville.

Alma L. Hossler Services

1960-2001

Services were to be today at Scott Funeral Home, Cambridge, for Alma L. Hossler, 75, of Cambridge, who died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.

The Rev. Michael Seely will officiate. Burial will be in Center Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 28, 1926, in Cambridge, daughter of the late Lora Schlosser.

Mrs. Hossler retired from March Electric after 30 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her half-brother, Lonnie.

She leaves her husband, Albert B. Hossler of Cambridge, whom she married June 6, 1943; three sons, Rick Hossler of Florida, Bruce Hossler of South Dakota and Dwane Hossler of Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Jim (Barbara) McCulley, Mrs. Fred (Patricia) Garbrandt and Mrs. David (Mary) Jones, all of Cambridge; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; an aunt, Mary Cammarcci of Cincinnati; and a special granddaughter, Lora Woods.

Gloria 'Whiss' Dobson

1926-2001

DRESDEN — Gloria K. “Whiss” Dobson, 74, of Dresden, died Wednesday (Feb. 14, 2001) at Sunnyview Nursing Home, where she had been a patient six weeks.

She was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Dresden, daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Wallace) Mitchell, Sr.

A 1945 graduate of Jefferson High School, she was a member of American Legion Post 399 Auxiliary, Seneca Sam Chapter 24 Camping Club and Dresden United Methodist Church. She was also an avid doll collector.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul R. (Rick) Dobson, in 1969.

She leaves her husband, Paul J. Dobson, whom she married Oct. 2, 1948; a daughter, Marge Williams of Dresden; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles “Bud” (Carol) Mitchell of Dresden; four sisters, Vivian Mathew, Mrs. Al (Mildred) Mattingly, both of Dresden, Mrs. Mac (Jane) Dickerson of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Ray (Maxine) Foree of Tustin, Calif.

Friends and family may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Vensil & Orr Funeral Home in Dresden, where services will be 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. L. David Martin officiating.

Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
