Evelyn N. Brownfield

BARNESVILLE — Evelyn N. Brownfield, 90, of Barnesville, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Hospitality West Nursing Home, Xenia.

She was born July 2, 1910, in Barnesville, daughter of the late Oswald and Elphia (Carpenter) Pierce.

Mrs. Brownfield was a member of West Main Street Church of Christ. She retired from Bethesda Grade School, where she taught for 43 years. She was a member of Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold K. Brownfield.

She leaves a daughter, Roseanne Cisch of Dayton; a sister, Ellen Smith of Cambridge; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville, with services to follow at 1 p.m. with Evangelist Patrick Gampp officiating.

Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville.

James L. Dyer

BARNESVILLE — James L. Dyer, 67, of Barnesville, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Barnesville Hospital.

He was born June 13, 1933, in Barnesville, son of Bernice Miller Dyer of Barnesville and the late William Dyer.

Mr. Dyer was a retired construction worker. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Barnesville American Legion Post 168.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Williams) Dyer; a sister, Velma Burkhart; and a brother, Robert Dyer.

He leaves a daughter, Crystal Dyer Collins; two grandchildren, Cameron and Joshua Collins, all of Hanoverton; three sisters, Helen Carpenter, Peggy Carpenter and Connie Skinner, all of Barnesville; two brothers, Thomas Dyer of San Diego, Calif., and Pat Dyer of Minerva.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, Barnesville, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Bartley Funeral Home, Minerva, with services to follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Rick Lautzenheiser officiating.

Burial will be in Heritage Memorial Gardens, Minerva.

Charles Hichman

GROVE CITY — Charles Hickman, 74, of Grove City, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Mt. Carmel Medical Center, Columbus.

Mr. Hickman was a retired CPA and a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gladys Hickman.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Dorothy; two sons, Charles III (Rosi) and Mark (Patricia); two daughters, Mrs. Chris (Linda) Putkovich and Mrs. Dennis (Amy) McClure; and a grandson, Charles IV.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, Grove City, where services will be 10 a.m. Thursday.

Burial will be in Grove City Cemetery.

Alma Hossler

Alma Hossler, of Cambridge, 75, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.

Arrangements are pending at Scott Funeral Home, Cambridge.

Martha Goddard

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. — Martha (Johnson) Goddard, 99, of Montclair, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Van Dyk Manor Nursing Home, Montclair.

She was born May 11, 1901, in Cambridge, Ohio, daughter of the late Frank H. and Jessie Johnson.

Mrs. Goddard was a 1923 graduate of The Ohio State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics. She was a resident of Montclair since 1957. She was a member of Montclair Women’s Club, Montclair Teacher’s Club and Delta Gamma Sorority of The Ohio State University.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Johnson.

She leaves her husband, Charles H. Goddard; a brother, Frank H. Johnson of New York City; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews.

Private services will be at Arthur K. Brown Inc., Bloomfield.

Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, Wellston, Ohio.

Helen Thomas

BARNESVILLE — Helen M. Thomas, 85, of Barnesville, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at her home.

She was born Oct. 2, 1911, in Quaker City, daughter of the late Charles J. and Theresa (Gallagher) Knight.

Mrs. Thomas was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Thomas; a brother, Karl Knight; three sisters, Eleanor Totten, Julia Edwards and Gertrude Conner.

She leaves a daughter, Mrs. David (Nancy) Grimes of Fairview; a sister, Eloise Cheney of Ada; three grandchildren, Mike Grimes of Salesville, Dianna Stein of Greencastle, Pa., and Julie McEndree of Quaker City; five great-grandchildren, Meghan and Molly Grimes, Lauren Stein and Emily and Madison McEndree; several close friends and neighbors.

Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville, with services to follow at 1 p.m.

Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Francis J. “Pat” Patterson services

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, for Francis J. “Pat” Patterson, of Cambridge, who died Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at his home.

The Rev. Mark Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
