LESLIE ANN CHRISTMAN SERVICES
1965-2001

WOODSFIELD — Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodsfield Church of Christ for Leslie Ann Christman, 35, of Woodsfield, who died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, W.Va.

Keith Jones, Travis Smalley and Sam Bartrug will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield. Visitation will also be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with services to follow.

She was born July 14, 1965, in Barnesville, daughter of Bobbie (Vaden) Cannon of Woodsfield and the late Clint Cannon.

Mrs. Christman was a homemaker and member of Woodsfield Church of Christ. She was a 1983 graduate of Woodsfield High School.

She leaves her husband, Randall A. Christman, whom she married Sept. 18, 1986; a daughter, Katelyn A. Christman; and a son, Samuel Cannon Christman, both of the home; two brothers, Lamar (Denise) Cannon of Lebanon, Tenn., and Neal (Stacey) Cannon of St. Clairsville; maternal grandmother, Ruby Vaden Lambert of Maryville, Tenn.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

RAYMOND A. ‘BUS’ JONES SERVICES

1910-2001

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, for Raymond A. “Bus” Jones, 90, of Lore City, who died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Cambridge.

Evangelist Bruce Daugherty will officiate. Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born Oct. 27, 1910, in Old Washington, son of the late Thomas Arthur and Trudie Alice (Brookover) Jones.

Mr. Jones was a member of the Church of Christ, 10th Street and Clairmont Avenue, Cambridge.

He was a farmer, raising hogs, cattle, sheep and was a beekeeper. He was a graduate of Lore City High School.

He was a member of the Cambridge City Band and the 4-H Sheep Club. He served as supervisor of the Soil Conservation Service for 10 years. He served as the school board clerk for more than 20 years in the Wills Local, Zane Trace and East Guernsey school districts. He was Wills Township clerk for 17 years and was a 30-year Guernsey County honey bee inspector.

He was a big game hunter for such wildlife as deer, bear and moose.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenna (Dearth) Jones, who died Dec. 24, 1998. They were married June 13, 1940. Also deceased are four brothers, O.R. Jones, Learny Jones, Wayne Jones and B.K. Jones.

He leaves two sisters, Golda McGaughy of Byesville and Eleanor Barnhardt of Hilliard; brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Doris Dearth of Lore City; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Roth of Bellaire; several nieces and nephews.

B. VIRGINIA HOTCHKISS

1921-2001

CALDWELL — B. Virginia Hotchkiss, 80, of Caldwell, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell.

She was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Williamson, N.Y., daughter of the late James F. and Bernice L. (Burns) Welch.

Mrs. Hotchkiss was a former employee of American Greetings in Cleveland. She was a homemaker and Protestant by faith.

She leaves her husband, Wilbur E. Hotchkiss, whom she married May 25, 1957; a daughter, Mrs. David (Nanette) Smith of Parma; three grandchildren, Gregory and Todd Smith of Parma and Bambi Sanicky of Cleveland.

No calling hours will be observed.

Graveside services and burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Erie, Pa..

MARY R. PAULUS SERVICES

1905-2001

WOODSFIELD — Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, for Mary R. Paulus, 95, of Woodsfield, who died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Barnesville Hospital.

The Rev. Fr. David Gaydosik will serve as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Sylvester Catholic Cemetery, Woodsfield.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield. Rosary devotions will be recited at 3:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, followed by vigil services at 8:30 p.m.

She was born Dec. 23, 1905, near Woodsfield, daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Schumacher) Paulus.

Mrs. Paulus retired from Economy Store, Woodsfield, where she served as a clerk. She was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Woodsfield, where she was a member of Purgatorial Society.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda E. Paulus; a brother, Francis J. Paulus; a sister-in-law, Freeda Paulus.

She leaves two nieces, Rita Rodgers of Belpre, and Catherine Paulus of Woodsfield; four nephews, Robert Paulus of Lancaster, John Paulus and Edwin Paulus, both of Woodsfield, Ralph Paulus of Hockessin, Del., several great-nieces and nephews.

FRANKLIN I. HANSON SERVICES

1913-2001

WOODSFIELD — Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, for Franklin I. Hanson, 88, of Woodsfield, who died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta.

The Rev. Lynda Masters will officiate. Military graveside services and burial will be at Stafford Cemetery, Stafford.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m.

He was born Jan. 29, 1913, near Stafford, son of the late Marion Ira and Emma May (Lumbatis) Hanson.

Mr. Hanson was a 1932 graduate of Franklin Local High School, Stafford, and also Wheeling Barber College in Wheeling, W.Va.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II from January 1943 to February 1946 in the European Theatre. He was a retired barber, having barbered for approximately 50 years in Zanesville, Martins Ferry and Woodsfield. He worked locally from 1946 to 1990 in the Everett Briggs Barber Shop, Woodsfield.

He was a member of Sutherland Methodist Church, Lewisville. He was a former member of Knights of Pythias, and past master and 50 year member of Stafford Masonic Lodge 300, Free and Accepted Masons, Stafford. He was an avid bowler and golfer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Louisa (McVay) Hanson, who died Sept. 14, 1999; and a brother, Marion LeRoy Hanson.

He leaves a sister, Frances Hanson Scott of Belpre; two nieces, Mrs. Paul (Linda) Lafferre and Carol Hanson, both of Lewisville; three nephews, Stephen (Sharon) Hanson of Belle Valley, David Hanson and Eugene Hanson, both of Lewisville; several great-nieces and nephews; several great-great-nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, June Hanson of Lewisville; and a brother-in-law, Edgar E. McVay of Stafford. (Paid)

BARNESVILLE — Floyd E. Turner, 87, of Barnesville, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville.

HOMER REX LEACH

1929-2001

SUMMERFIELD — Homer Rex Leach, 72, of Quaker City, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell.

He was born Jan. 17, 1929, near Quaker City, son of the late Arch and Hazel (Powell) Leach.

Mr. Leach retired from W.J. Plumly Inc., Somerton, where he served as a mechanic.

He was a Protestant by faith and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Wise) Leach, who died April 4, 1989; a brother, Gervis Leach; an infant daughter; and a grandson, Donnie Howiler.

He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Gary (Penny) Reed of Caldwell, Mrs. Rick (Betty Ann) Howiler of Temperanceville and Mrs. Bill (Patty) Masciarelli of Summerfield; two sons, Mike Leach of Old Washington and Jeff Leach of Temperanceville; two sisters, Barbara Floyd of Zanesville and Mrs. Jerry (Florence Carol) Davis of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, Arch Neal (Ruth) Leach of Quaker City; an aunt, Beulah Goodin of Cambridge; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Brubach-Watters Funeral Home, Summerfield, where services will be 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Bill Pickenpaugh officiating.
Burial will be in Calais Cemetery, Calais.

JOSEPH A. TACOSIK

1942-2001

BETHESDA — Joseph A. Tacosik, 58, of Fishers, Ind., died Saturday (Feb. 10, 2001) at his home.

He was born Sept. 19, 1942, in Belmont, son of Theda Steadman of Belmont and the late Joseph Tacosik.

He leaves his wife of more than 38 years, Connie (Norris) Tacosik; two sons, Mark (Leslie) Tacosik and Todd Tacosik, all of Fishers, Ind.; four brothers, David Tacosik of West Chester, Thomas Tacosik of Columbus, Edward Tacosik and John Tacosik of Belmont; six grandchildren, Joseph, Emma, Carter, Rebekah, Jenna and Jacob Tacosik of Fishers, Ind.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, Noblesville, Ind., where a memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday.

HAROLD ‘PETE’ ROWLAND

1927-2001

FREEPORT — Harold Elmer “Pete” Rowland, 73, of Freeport, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz.

He was born Oct. 10, 1927, in Freeport, son of Florence Mae (Myers) Rowland of Freeport, and the late Preston E. Rowland.

Mr. Rowland was a 1945 graduate of Freeport High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II, and was a member of the Army Band, performing in Germany.

He retired in 1989 from Cravat Coal Co. in Holloway after 17 years of service as a mine foreman. Prior to that he worked for 20 years as a heavy equipment operator for Edgar Spring Construction in Midvale.

He was a life member of Stillwater Valley Post VFW 6815, where he was a former commander.

He was an avid Democratic supporter, participating in all Harrison County events.

He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Rowland.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Virginia Pendleton Rowland, whom he married Jan. 7, 1946; a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Brenda) Luyster of Flushing (Moorefield); a brother, Larry Dean Rowland of Bolivar; a sister, Linda Sue Farmer of Wooster; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Koch Funeral Home, Freeport, where services will be 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Paul Hamilton officiating.

Military services and burial will be at Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport.

KAYTLIN MARIE GARRETT

INFANT

CADIZ — Kaytlin Marie Garrett, 29-day-old infant of Jason and Angela (Banks) Garrett, died Saturday (Feb. 10, 2001) at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz.

She was born Jan. 12, 2001, in Martins Ferry.

She leaves a brother, Holden Garrett; and a sister, Tiarra Garrett, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Lester and Carmen Banks; paternal grandparents, Robert and Tammy Jenkins, all of Cadiz; maternal great-grandparents, Clyde Williams of Cadiz, and Jack Littleton of Carrollton; paternal great-grandparents, Ruth Jenkins of Cadiz, and Norma Garrett of LaGrange; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, with services to follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ray Ellenbaugh officiating.

Burial will be in Cadiz Union Cemetery.

FRANCIS J. ‘PAT’ PATTERSON SERVICES

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, for Francis J. “Pat” Patterson, of Cambridge, who died Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at his home.

The Rev. Mark Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

He was born in Cambridge, son of the late Charles D. and Anna L. (Figley) Patterson.

Mr. Patterson and his brother owned and operated Patterson Plumbing. He later retired as superintentent of maintenance for Guernsey County.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Guernsey Lodge 632 F&Am, Eastern Star Chapter 211, and a 50-year member of Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen (Bowers) Patterson; three brothers, Charles, Dawson and Chester Patterson.

He leaves his wife, Myrna V. (Cline) Patterson of Cambridge; several nieces and nephews.

MARDO WILLIAM

WESTERVILLE - Mardo William, who became a book author at age 90 and who once conducted a book signing in Cambridge at Olympic Books, died from an apparent heart attack at his home on Feb. 3, 2001. He was 95.

Formerly a reporter and a business columnist for The Columbus Dispatch, Williams penned a book, "Maude: She Grew Up With the Country," about his 110-year-old mother who died in 1993. The book — available from Calliope Press, (800) 431-1579 — is in its third printing.
