Jody Phillips

                                    1962-2000

            BARNESVILLE — Jody Lynn (Starr) Phillips, 38, of Barnesville,
            died Tuesday (Dec. 5, 2000) at Wheeling (W.Va.) Hospital.

            She was born Jan. 21, 1962, in Barnesville, daughter of Myra
            Weber Starr Chambers of Charleston, W.Va., and the late Richard
            Starr.

            Ms. Phillips was a graduate of Barnesville High School and
            Belmont Technical School of Nursing. She had worked at area
            nursing homes for the past 17 years.

            She was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, George
            Weber; paternal grandparents, Jacob and Irene Starr.

            She leaves her step father, David Chambers of Charleston, W.Va.;
            a daughter, Megan Phillips; a son, Aaron Phillips, both of the home;
            a sister, Mrs. David (Tina) Leach of Barnesville; a brother, Michael
            (Wanda) Starr of Barnesville; maternal grandmother, Lina Campbell
            of Barnesville; step brothers, Todd Chambers of Lima; and Brent
            Chambers of Pataskala; several nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

            Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at
            Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, Barnesville, where services will
            be 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Edward Eberhart officiating.

            Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville.

            Memorial contributions may be made to Barnesville School
            Building Fund, 210 W. Church St., Barnesville, OH 43713.

                               Glenn Dale Hudson

            Glenn Dale Hudson, 84, a seven-year resident of the Guernsey
            County Home, died Wednesday (Dec. 6, 2000) at Barnesville
            Health Care Center.

            Arrangements are pending at Thorn-Black Funeral Home,
            Cambridge.

                                 Katheleen Betts

            Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home,
            Cambridge, for Kathleen Betts, 79, of Cambridge, who died
            Monday (Dec. 4, 2000) at her home.

            Pastor Jack Welch will officiate. Burial will be in Guernsey Memory
            Gardens.

            Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral
            home.

                                Ruben E. Spurrier

                                    1914-2000

            BYESVILLE — Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Black Family
            Funeral Service, Byesville, for Ruben E. Spurrier, 86, of Buffalo,
            who died Tuesday (Dec. 5, 2000) at Southeastern Ohio Regional
            Medical Center, Cambridge.

            The Rev. Forrest “Jack” Lamneck will officiate.

            Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home,
            with services to follow.

            He was born Sept. 9, 1914, in Cumberland, son of the late Lewis
            and Ethel (LePage) Spurrier.

            Mr. Spurrier retired in 1992, after serving 37 years as postmaster in
            Buffalo. He was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church.

            He was past president and retired member of Ohio National
            League of Postmasters. He was awarded the State Henry Heyl
            Award for service, leadership and guidance.

            He was past commander and member of Byesville American
            Legion Post 116 and Buffalo VFW Post 8040. He was past master
            and member of Point Pleasant Lodge 360, and was past board
            member of Valley Local Schools.

            He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served more than four years,
            with 38 months being in the South Pacific Theatre during World
            War II, on the Somoa Islands, Tonga Island, Guadacanal and Iwo
            Jima.

            He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

            He leaves his wife, Clara (Williams) Spurrier, whom he married
            Dec. 25, 1940; a daughter, Connie Spurrier of Dublin; James and
            Kathy Cain, who were like a son and daughter to Mr. Spurrier; five
            sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; an aunt; several nieces and
            nephews.

            Memorial contributions may be made to Buffalo United Methodist
            Church.

                                Clyde W. Wharton

                                    1913-2000

            CALDWELL — Services were Wednesday at McVay-Perkins
            Funeral Home, Caldwell, for Clyde W. Wharton, 87, of Caldwell,
            who died Monday (Dec. 4, 2000) at Summit Acres Nursing Home,
            Caldwell.

            The Rev. Ken Hyland officiated the service. Burial was in Olive
            Cemetery.

            He was born Aug. 10, 1913, in Summerfield, son of the late
            Danford and Bessie (McElfresh) Wharton.

            Mr. Wharton had formerly served as Noble County Recorder and
            was a retired bookkeeper for Central Ohio Coal Co. in
            Cumberland. He attended First Presbyterian Church, Caldwell, and
            was a member of the Noble County Democrat Club.

            He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Fetkovich)
            Wharton, who died July 31, 1981.

            He leaves his wife, Avenell (Woodford) Williams Wharton. They
            were married Sept. 22, 1984. Also surviving is two sons, David
            (Kathy) of Hawaii and James (Diane) Wharton of Caldwell; two
            daughters, Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Sholtis and Mrs. Gilbert (Judith)
            Wheeler, both of Caldwell; nine grandchildren; and nine
            great-grandchildren.
