ESTELLA A. CARPENTER

1917-2000

BARNESVILLE — Estella A. “Stella” Carpenter, 83, of Prescott, Ariz., formerly of Barnesville and Quaker City, died Saturday (Dec. 23, 2000) in Arizona.

She was born May 28, 1917, in Barnesville, daughter of the late Arthur and Hazel (Gallagher) Powell.

Mrs. Carpenter retired from Riverside Hospital, Columbus, where she served as director of volunteers. For her work with teen-agers in the volunteer program at the hospital, she received letters of congratulations from President Richard Nixon and Pat Nixon.

She was formerly Woman of the Year in Ohio.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Powell; a sister, Betty Geisey; a great-grandson, Tony Cipolla.

She leaves two daughters, Mrs. David (Kay) Campbell of Butler, Pa., and Mrs. Don (Donna) Kincaid of Prescott, Ariz.; two sisters, Evelyn Kistler and Mrs. William (Wilma) McGregor, both of Vero Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews.

No calling hours will be observed.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville, is handling the arrangements.

WILLIAM EARL WHARTON

1941-2000

BETHESDA — William Earl Wharton, 59, of Belmont, died Wednesday (Dec. 27, 2000) at his home.

He was born Nov. 4, 1941, in Bethesda, son of the late Merle and Thelma (McKinley) Wharton.

Mr. Wharton was a grader operator for the Belmont County Engineering Department.

He was a member and elder of Bend Fork Christian Church, Belmont.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Timmy Dwayne Wharton.

He leaves his wife, Grace (Perkins) Wharton; two sons, Robert ( Julie) Wharton of Belmont and Stephen Wharton of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Forrest (Deanna) Kemp of Belmont; a brother, John Wharton of Barnesville; a sister, Glenna Heskett of Zanesville.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, Bethesda, where services will be 2 p.m. Sunday with Brothers Joe Coma, Bud Burke and Norman Clampitt officiating.

Burial will be in Bend Fork Cemetery, Belmont.

THE REV. PAUL R. PRICE

URBANA — The Rev. Paul R. Price, 83, of Gautier, Miss., died Friday (Dec. 22, 2000).

The Rev. Mr. Price was an electrical engineer, master plumber, carpenter, teacher, Methodist minister, counselor, pastor and evangelist.

He was called to the ministry in January 1948 and retired June 30, 1981, after having been a United Methodist minister for 33 years. He was a member of Woodsfield Masonic Lodge 0189 and Eastern Star Chapter 268. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Joppa Shrine Temple, as well as the Clown Unit.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.

He leaves his wife of 61 years, Martha (Powell) Price; a son, John Paul Price of Canton; a daughter, Sandra L. Mowrey of Gautier, Miss.; a sister, Ruth J. Zinsmeister of New Jersey; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Services were Dec. 28 at Walter-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Urbana, with the Rev. Norman Wright officiating.

Burial was in Kingscreek Cemetery.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Dalton United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.

DOROTHY CONVERSE

BYESVILLE — Dorothy Converse, 76, of Cambridge, died Thursday (Dec. 28, 2000) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, Canton, where services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Burial will be in Eastern Cemetery, Summerfield.

Black Family Funeral Service, Byesville, is handling the arrangements.

WILFORD B. DOUGLASS

1919-2000

BARNESVILLE — Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville, for Wilford B. Douglass, 81, of Barnesville, who died Wednesday (Dec. 27, 2000) at Barnesville Hospital.

The Rev. Michael Simon will officiate. Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born Sept. 30, 1919, in Belmont County, son of the late Edward B. and Katherine M. (Burkhart) Douglass.

Mr. Douglass retired from R&F Coal Co. and was a Methodist by faith.

He was a member of VFW Post 2792, Barnesville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma L. (McBurney) Douglass; and a sister, Mary Thompson.

He leaves two sons, David Douglass of Cottondale, Ala., and John Douglass of Fairview; a daughter, Susie Moore of Barnesville; a step-son, George Moore of Barnesville; three step-daughters, Nancy Dowless of Fayetteville, N.C., Patricia Greiner of Barnesville and Linda Sudduth of Newcomerstown; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
