NEWCOMERSTOWN —James W. Hammond, 53, of Gassville, Ark., for the last few
years, formerly of Van Nuys, Calif., and Newcomerstown, died Tuesday (Dec.
19, 2000) at Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock, Ark.
Arrangements are pending at Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown.
Betty Wilson
CALDWELL — Betty J. (Dyer) Wilson, 76, of Massillon, died Wednesday (Dec. 20, 2000) at her home.
She was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Noble County, daughter of the late Lee and Pearl (Rodgers) Dyer.
Mrs. Wilson retired from Hoover Co., North Canton, having served 25 years.
She attended Caldwell United Methodist Church as a child.
She was a member of VFW Auxiliary at Navarre and the Massillon Moose Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Hill; her second husband,
Jack Leonard; her third husband, George Wilson; two brothers, Ted and Thomas
Dyer; and a sister, Rosella Sickmiller.
She leaves two sons, George Kenneth (Roseanne) Hill of Akron and Terry Leonard
of Canton; three daughters, Barbara Hill Green of Norton, Mrs. Robert (Diana)
German of South Carolina and Mrs. Ron (Jackie) Grey of Massillon; a sister,
Nanette Glidden of Caldwell; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell,
where services will be 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Gary Fitzgerald officiating.
Burial will be in Olive Cemetery.
Evelyn E. Williams
NEW CONCORD — Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bloomfield Presbyterian
Church for Evelyn Elfreda Williams, 89, a resident of The Beckett House,
New Concord, since 1994, who passed away Wednesday (Dec. 20, 2000).
The Rev. Martin Radcliff will officiate. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mock-Miller Funeral Home, New
Concord, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
She was born July 21, 1911, in New Concord, daughter of the late Laura and Harry Barr.
Mrs. Williams was a life long member of Bloomfield Presbyterian Church, having
joined in membership in 1925. She was known for her generous nature and gracious
hospitality to those in need. Through the years her home was refuge to many,
and especially loved children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Seward Williams, who died
Jan. 15, 1990. They were married Dec. 12, 1932. Also deceased are a son,
Donald Curtis Williams, who died in infancy in 1938; a grandson; three brothers;
and a half-brother.
She leaves four daughters, Mrs. Andy (Laura Mae) Bates of New Concord, Mrs.
Don (Judy) Boyd of Caldwell, Mrs. Dan (Sharon) Gibson of Goodview, Va., and
Vickie Crawford of West Lafayette; three sons, Eugene (Lina) Williams of
Center Point, Texas, Robert (Mary Jane) Wlliams and Kenneth (Barbara) Williams,
both of New Concord; a sister, Isabel Bowers of Dayton; three brothers, Harper
Barr of New Concord, Wilmer Barr of Cambridge and Robert Barr of Norwich;
13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two half-brothers; four half-sisters;
several nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bloomfield Presbyterian Church.
Dora Leo Clark
NEW CONCORD — Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at New Concord Church of Christ
for Dora Leo Clark, 97, of Norwich, who died Tuesday (Dec. 19, 2000) at his
home.
Evangelist Richard Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park, Zanesville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Mock-Miller Funeral Home, New Concord.
He was born June 16, 1903, near Summerfield, Noble County.
Mr. Clark was a retired employee of Baker’s Motel, Norwich. He was a member of New Concord Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ethel (Wehr) Clark, who died
Oct. 4, 1980. They were married Nov. 17, 1924. Also deceased are a daughter,
Wanda Faye Morris; four sisters, Roxie, Mary, Ethel and Josie; four brothers,
Jess, Alva, Cleo and Richard.
He leaves two daughters, Eva Florence Mullins of Norwich and Mrs. Robert
H. (Edith May) Hardy of Chandlersville; a son, Ronald Robert (Jean) Clark
of Norwich; a sister-in-law, Bernice Batten Clark of Lexington, Ky.; 11 grandchildren;
26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Concord Church of Christ or Genesis Hospice.
Lela Lanning
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, for
Lela M. (Hall) Lanning, 93, of Cambridge, formerly of Fairview Park, who
died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000) at Parma Heights Hospital, Parma.
The Rev. Dr. Terry Litton will officiate. Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
