Duane R. Bamfield, 78, of Cambridge, died Sunday (Dec. 17, 2000) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 30, 1922, in Cambridge, son of the late Everett and Nellie W. (Kuntz) Bamfield.

Mr. Bamfield retired from Superior Model and was employed at the former Oxford Tile, where he worked as a pottery worker, and at the Chair Factory.

He was a member of Center United Methodist Church and DAV Chapter 28. He was a 4-H adviser for 24 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Armored Division during World War II.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Judy Hursey and infant daughter, Marilyn Jean Bamfield; a brother, Reed Bamfield; and two grandchildren.

He leaves his wife, Margaret E. (Fetzko) Bamfield of the home. They were married Dec. 24, 1940. Also surviving are five sons, John (Tommye) Bamfield of Laverne, Tenn., Dana (Bridget) Bamfield, Gerry (Liz) Bamfield, Rick (Diane) Bamfield and Rudy (Lori) Bamfield, all of Cambridge; a brother, Everett Bamfield Jr. of Columbus; two sisters, Vera Gill of Reynoldsburg and Opal Coville of Dayton; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

No calling hours will be observed.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, with the Revs. Dennis Nelson Jr. and Joseph Q. Pearce officiating.

Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.

Virginia Brown

QUAKER CITY — Virginia M. Brown, 96, of Brown Memorial Home, Circleville, formerly of Quaker City, died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000) at the home.

She was born March 24, 1904, in Batesville, daughter of the late Preston and Julia (Stephen) Mercer.

Mrs. Brown was a elementary school teacher for 20 years in the Quaker City and Batesville area schools.

She was a member of Quaker City United Methodist Church and Batesville United Methodist Church.

She graduated from Batesville High School and Muskingum College, where she earned a teaching degree. She was a member of the Ohio Teachers Association and Rebekah Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. “Dick” Brown, who died in January 1990. They were married June 27, 1925. Also deceased are a son, R. Curtis Brown; three brothers, Robert Mercer, Walter Mercer and Perry Mercer; a sister, Iona Long; and a grandson, Steven Brown.

She leaves a daughter-in-law, Delores Brown of Circleville; a sister-in-law, Bertha Mercer of Quaker City; a grandchild, Mrs. Don (Rita) Smith of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two great-grandchildren, Brian and Scott Smith.

Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City.

Floyd Denbow

WOODSFIELD — Floyd Edgar Denbow, 94, of Lewisville, died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000) at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield.

Sydney Ickes

Sydney Savanna Ickes, infant daughter of Jan J. Ickes and Nicole R. Dodd of Pleasant City, died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

She leaves a brother; grandparents, Diana L. Kunkle, the late Stephen Michael Dodd, Jan I. Ickes, Linda Franks, Gary Cox, Barb Sisk. Great-grandparents, Delbert and Cleora Kunkle and Sue Dodd, Paul Long, the late Carol Evyon Bradford. Great-great-grandparents, Mary Kunkle, Valentine Kunkle, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Long, Ruth Wheeler, Esther Gray and the late Orvile Gray; several aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, and cousins.

Arrangements are pending at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge.

Lela Lanning

Lela M. (Hall) Lanning, 93, of Cambridge, died Monday (Dec. 18, 2000) at Parma Heights Hospital, Parma.

She was born April 29, 1907, in Quaker City, daughter of the late Louis Walton and Margaret Lucretia (Lowery) Hall.

Mrs. Lanning had been employed as a secretary and office manager at the former Wells Hospital. She later was a bookeeper for Guernsey Laundry Co.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Cambridge.

She was a 1924 graduate of Cambridge High School and attended Highland College, Kansas, where her husband taught. She served as secretary, was a member of the college Literacy Society and earned an associate of arts degree.

While a resident of Cambridge she was a member of the former Hy Shy Ny Club, Beta Circle of the Child Conservation League, True Blue Class and Co-Wed Sunday School Class.

She enjoyed the piano, her houseplants, working with PTA and Boy Scouts and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Lanning Sr., who died Feb. 1, 1994. They were married Sept. 6, 1930. Also deceased is a daughter, Margaret Ellen; eight brothers; and two sisters.

She leaves three sons, J. Thomas Lanning Jr., MD, and Patricia Lanning of Cleveland Heights; D. Bruce (Susan) Lanning of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; and Robert Brent (Lori) Lanning of Broadview Heights; a sister-in-law, Beulah Schuster Hall of Cambridge; several nieces and nephews, including two nephews, Paul Hall of Rogerville, Tenn., and James Jefferis of Mayfield Heights; six grandchildren, John T. Lanning and Timothy P. Lanning, both of Cleveland Heights, Lisa A. Lanning of Bellefontaine, Laurie S. Lanning Duffie of Richmond, Va.; David B. Lanning Jr. of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; and Margaret Jane Lanning Sabin of Minneapolis, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Halle Rae Duffie and Mathew David Lanning.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Dr. Terry Litton officiating.
